Perhaps the #23 team of 23XI Racing should put on Radiohead and give in to the moment. At least they would have soaked themselves completely in the unending bad luck and gloom that has surrounded Bubba Wallace this season.
Throughout this season so far, Wallace has collected a long list of races that have been compromised due to an issue that stemmed out of the driver’s hands.
This time around in Sonoma, it was an engine failure that left the driver as confused as his fans, as his team, and as anyone else watching it unfold.

“I don’t know what happened, blew up,” Wallace said on his radio. “I don’t know how you blow up a motor here, WOW!”

During the Coca-Cola 600, Wallace’s team made a pretty big mistake of not conveying the information that caused some severe and direct consequences for his race result.
This was something that Freddie Kraft, Wallace’s spotter, also addressed in a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast.

“We just continue to figure out ways to f**k up over this year, apparently. Listen, I said here a couple of weeks ago, the number one job is to know the rules and we just overlooked a pretty big one,” Kraft said.

“For some reason, NASCAR said, all cars have made minimum speed at lap 199. And then at lap 200 they said the #23 is not maintaining the speed,” he continued.
Kraft added that while the rule outlines that a driver has three laps with minimum speed to clear it, they didn’t. Instead, they were hoping to go for “the long game”, saving tires but doing that meant they “f****d up.”
