At the Talladega Superspeedway, Bubba Wallace created history with his maiden Cup Series win. Of course, nothing came easily for him as he started 19th on the grid. However, he managed to scythe his way up the order and take the lead. All throughout the race, all eyes were on the skies because they were expecting rain.
Ahead of the race, the 23XI Racing crew was strategizing. Meanwhile, it had already begun to drizzle during the warm-up, so things were going to get dicey. While Wallace was dueling, 23XI Racing spotter Freddie Kraft noted that opponent Martin Truex Jr was trying to get some clean air. At the same time, Truex Jr. was hoping for some teamwork from Bubba Wallace.

Soon, quite a few drivers reported handling issues, so they opted to run the outside line. Eventually, the rain got slightly heavier and there was an incident on the track. Later on, there was a second incident, and Bubba Wallace barely managed to dodge it. On lap 111, he took the race lead from future teammate Kurt Busch.

What did Bubba Wallace say on the radio?
As he drove, he got regular updates from spotter Freddie Kraft, who warned him of Brad Keselowski’s mounting attack. This proved crucial because it was still raining and Wallace made a decisive block on Keselowski. Later on, Ryan Preece got taken out and collected William Byron and Matt DiBenedetto.
This prompted a caution, and Wallace said on the radio, “Good f***ing job, dude. Rain like hell, baby. Come on! Oh its pouring over here, it’s pouring, call it“. Evidently, many others agreed, so the officials finally decided to declare the race results. However, it took a lot of waiting. So when Bubba Wallace got the news, he was absolutely elated to take his maiden Cup Series victory.
