In NASCAR, whenever there is heavy rain, track action is usually suspended until the weather conditions are favorable. Obviously, this is done for safety reasons, but it sometimes gets tedious for the drivers. Back in 2019 at the Michigan International Speedway, Bubba Wallace and Corey LaJoie teamed up to alleviate their boredom.

Somehow, one of them managed to get their hands on a football, which eventually led to a game of catch. Initially, the two drivers and friends were tossing the ball to each other. However, the game soon progressed into involving the fans, much to their delight.

Before long, Wallace and LaJoie were tossing the ball into the stands and the fans were also returning the ball. Suffice to say, both drivers had incredible upper arm strength, because the throws were able to clear the fence every time.

What else happened to Bubba Wallace and Corey LaJoie during the delay?

According to the commentators, LaJoie’s father revealed that Corey received throwing lessons from the legendary Jim Kelly. Corey even confessed that he was getting a little tired and there were ‘200 yards to go’.

Apparently, he and Bubba Wallace thought that it would be a good workout for them. The least they could have done was make the wait less boring for the fans, and LaJoie appreciated them sticking around for so long.

In conversation with the younger LaJoie, he admitted that he was around 8 or 9 years old at the time. Apparently, Kelly told him that the trick to a good throw was to keep his elbow up and have a short release.
