Last weekend’s race at the Circuit of The Americas witnessed a crossover between F1 and NASCAR. Not just a couple of drivers from F1 but also Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner was seen in the paddock, joining the FOX Sports TV booth for the NASCAR Cup Series. Along with him at the booth were Kurt Busch, Clint Bowyer, and Mike Joy. Chase Elliott also made an appearance remotely due to his injury. But it looks like it was still not what the fans had expected, and Kaulig Racing spotter Brett Griffin made a classic old-school suggestion for it.

When announced, it was happy news for fans to witness so many of their favorites there. Along with NASCAR representatives, F1 team principal Steiner made his debut at the FOX booth. But in reality, it went opposite to the fan’s expectations. With a lot of noise and overlapping, the fans didn’t quite enjoy listening to all of them together. It rather became chaos for the audience, leading to a lot of negative feedback.

Who did Brett Griffin suggest instead of Kurt Busch and Chase Elliott?

Veteran Spotter Brett Griffin, in conversation with TJ Majors on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, shared his take on the whole thing.

He said, “I hate to go back to the old school way, but I appreciate a guy like Mike joy in the booth. A driver like Clint Bowyer in a booth and give me a crew chief, or give me some other perspective.” He further added that there is absolutely no need for “thirteen drivers” at the booth for the broadcast. Last weekend at the COTA there were actually just three or four.

He appreciated the fact that Larry Mac was brought back for broadcasting, which, in Griffin’s opinion, is a smart move. He said, “I think there was nobody who works harder in the business like Larry Mac and Bob Pockrass. I mean the guys do their homework. They got their stats. They got information that they give us that we otherwise would never know.”

It completely makes sense what Griffin said about going the old school way because at the end of the day getting the information right backed by research brings more on the table for the fans.

Although fans couldn’t enjoy the commentary at the FOX booth, they certainly did enjoy one of the commentator’s social media antics. They were left in splits as Kurt Busch celebrated Guenther Steiner’s appearance in NASCAR.

While it was not a very difficult task for Steiner to be a guest analyst for FOX Sports telecast, it was totally different for the F1 drivers going head to head with the seasoned NASCAR drivers. Still, the former F1 champions, Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen, seem to have found a way to enjoy their new challenge and grow through it. NASCAR fans have been very welcoming in the amalgamation of both motorsports.
