RCR's Xfinity stars think they could shine in the Olympics—do you agree or is it just hype?

Many NASCAR drivers have gone vacationing, while others have picked up hobbies to deal with the mid-season boredom. NASCAR is observing a two-week break across its multiple series, owing to the ongoing Paris Olympics. This break is characteristic only of the Olympics years, while the intermittent years witness a through-and-through racing season. But, is this a welcome break for NASCAR drivers to work on their performances?

Regardless of whether the NASCAR drivers are practicing their racing during these weeks, they need something to occupy their minds. Race drivers are athletes who lead pretty active lives and find it hard to sit idle. If they’re not racing, they find alternate interests to invest their energies in and stay sharp. With the Olympics on their minds, Richard Childress Racing‘s Xfinity drivers have come up with their idea of fun for the weeks off.

Which Olympic sports do RCR drivers think they have a shot at, if they tried?

NASCAR teams, especially drivers, have a lot of free time on their hands right now. And being athletes, they most likely indulge themselves in sports other than racing. Sports are not just for professional sportspeople; they’re good for everyone, depending on individual preferences. They help improve mind-body coordination while being recreational at the same time.

RCR recently posted an Instagram video on their official channel of a conversation between Austin Hill and Jesse Love. The two Xfinity racers exchange their takes on what sport they would fit in if they were to play at the Olympics. The #2 car driver responds, “I would just say off my track record; probably golf. I consider myself, again, a very good golfer.” Austin teases Jesse by sneering that not all the 18 golf holes are putts.

Keeping his jokes aside, Austin shares that he would have also picked golf as his first choice. However, he had a list of other preferences as well. “I would have to go with Archery, you know. I’m pretty good behind the arrow, you know. Single the bow and arrow, I can get after it. So, I feel like I have a pretty decent shot.” Not quite convinced, he goes on to state his next one, “If not archery, you know, I could say track too, you know.”

Before Jesse could react to any of his choices, Austin put up a question for him: “Look at my figure. Could I run?” With a somewhat hesitant tone, Jesse restates the question. Austin exuberantly asserts, “But I can freaking run with the best of them, you know what I’m saying.”

Have an interesting take?

NASCAR drivers can find an adrenaline rush in any act, even a conversation about sports. They don’t seek much from anything but some excitement. Driven by adventure and the propensity to challenge themselves, drivers are fond of competition, above all.

What are some other hobbies that NASCAR drivers have?

NASCAR drivers do not understand subtlety. When they do something, they just go all guns blazing. They are probably just structured that way. It’s kind of their bloodwork. So, when they say they have a hobby, it’s not just some gig they do behind closed doors, they always put up a performance.

The Olympics break might have given some drivers ample time to take up one of their hobbies they don’t otherwise get time for. While some drivers are skilled pilots, others go over and beyond by becoming collectors. Chase Elliott has a private pilot’s license and owns various planes, picking up his dad’s traits. Drivers are also passionate about owning and restoring classic cars.
