Yesterday, Heavy rains and Lightning in the surrounding area forced NASCAR to delay the GEICO 500 Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. This forced NASCAR to postpone the race to Monday.
The race was to start at 3:24 PM EST. However, a lightning warning came out at 2:30 PM and NASCAR decided to delay the race by half hour. And heavy rainfall started at around 3 PM.
After that, NASCAR decided to resume racing as soon as the track dried but were interrupted by another round of lightning and rainfall. And the series made the call to postpone the race to Monday. Additionally, the series had NASA astronaut live on air to give the race command from the International Space Station.

Now, The 188 lap race will start today at 3:00 PM EST. The 500-mile long race will consist of two stages of 60 lap each. Additionally, a competition caution of Lap 25 is planned.
Additionally, this season 11 out of 16 Cup Series races have been affected by rain. The GEICO 500 is the ninth Cup Series race after the series returns from the COVID-19 induced lockdown.

Martin Truex Jr will lead the Joe Gibbs Trio in Today’s race
Today, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. will lead the pact in his number 19 Toyota car. Denny Hamlin will accompany his teammate in the first row. Truex won the last race at Homestead-Miami Speedway and will look forward to repeating the feat.
