The notion remains how Truex Jr will appear at the Daytona 500 steering for Tricon Garage. However, a recent Reddit post seemed to discuss the same. Fans have pointed out how Joe Gibbs’ involvement in the entire arrangement. 

Truex Jr to appear at the Great American Race

For the longest time, it’s no secret how Truex Jr. would enter the Daytona 500. But it would be with 23XI Racing. However, one does not know whether the team will be open or charter for the future. Consequently, it is best that when it comes to an open car, Martin Truex Jr makes an entry, holding the hand of some other team. Recently, Bob Pockrass, a NASCAR journalist, posted a speculation on his X account. 

The tweet read, “It is expected that JGR likely would do much of the heavy lifting for the Truex entry. Obviously originally was going to be 23XI but with the lawsuit and not knowing for sure if they’d be charter or open, it made more sense for it to be done through Tricon.” Tricon Garage has been longing to make an entry into the Cup Series and this seems to be the perfect option indeed. 

Speculations arise about how Joe Gibbs helps Tricon Garage to prepare the car. The only thing that Tricon Garage needs to worry about is the branding. This is an enormous opportunity for the team because this will be the first time they will be sporting a race like the Daytona 500. And guess what, a former champion will drive for them. 

It is common to wonder why Tricon Garage would partner with Joe Gibbs’ Racing. After all, Tricon Garage is one of the biggest names in the NASCAR Truck Series tier. Tricon Garage has for the longest time been associated with Toyota. The team also has an impressive track record of developing talent like Corey Heim and Toni Breidinger from the initial days.

It is almost like a junior associate to Joe Gibbs Racing. This partnership between Joe Gibbs Racing and Tricon Garage underscores their shared commitment to Toyota’s racing legacy. Moreover, it sets the stage for a thrilling comeback at the Daytona 500 with Martin Truex Jr. behind the wheel. But fans had something to say about this.

A recent post via Reddit shared how the owner of Tricon Garage, David Gilliland, has denied claims of Martin Truex Jr joining the team for the Daytona 500. The post read, “[‪Joseph Srigley‬] Asked on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about rumors of TRICON Garage fielding a Daytona 500 entry for Martin Truex, David Gilliland says: “Right now, we’re focused on the Truck Series. Who knows what might happen one day, but right now the five truck team, that’s where our focus is at.” 

This entry has attracted satire from fans who firmly believe that Joe Gibbs will be the driving force behind it. 

A fan pointed out the same and wrote, “Well yeah, they’re prepping for the truck series because Truex’s car will be JGR prepped. They only need the name on the entry list, no man-power required.” Given how the JGR has all the means to develop their very own car that Tricon Garage can use, another fan pointed out, “It’s going to be a JGR car ran under the Tricon banner. There’s obviously some moving parts that need to be settled so he can’t say anything right now”. 

If rumors are to be believed, Tricon Garage would not need to do anything but add their team brand to the cars. Citing the same, a fan commented, “It’s not like it would been an actual tricon car if it happens, it’d be a JGR car with a tricon name slapped on top”. Joe Gibbs Racing already has four cars on the track for the 2025 season. Partnering with Tricon Garage, they will have another open car, on the track driven by Martin Truex Jr which will further enhance their chances of a victory. 

Fans know the camaraderie between Toyota and Joe Gibbs has been long-standing. The arrival of Tricon Garage made them a plausible choice for Martin Truex Jr. and Joe Gibbs to partner with. Harping on the same sentiment, a fan commented, “I mean it was pretty obvious JGR and Toyota were hustlers using the Tricon name to field a 5th Gibbs car”.

Only time will reveal whether this rumored partnership is a strategic masterstroke. Or whether it’s just another layer in NASCAR’s ever-intriguing web of speculation.
