Sunday’s race at Pocono was nothing less than a success, to say the least. One may nod their head in disagreement, but believe it or not, the event was a complete sellout and witnessed the largest turnover of the crowd. The race was certainly replete with incidents, but the winning pass made by Denny Hamlin gripped the hearts of the audience.
However, the win is indeed mired in controversy, as the Joe Gibbs Racing driver faced the wrath of the fans after his on-track contact with Kyle Larson. But it seems that the victor has the perfect answer to all the hatred as he responds to the allegations made by the No. 5 Chevy driver and puts to rest all the controversies once and for all on the latest episode of Actions Detrimental.

It is no secret that fans have always held a pivotal position in the world of NASCAR. These enthusiasts can always be seen cheering for their favorite drivers when they park their cars in the victory lane, but on the other side of the spectrum, these fans can often turn caustic, based on the driver’s performance on the track. Many may choose to disagree, but no one knows it better than Denny Hamlin, especially after his 7th victory in Pocono.
The driver was subjected to abuse as the audience flipped the bird. Hamlin had also posted images of the incident on his Instagram account, and he also seized the opportunity to address it in the latest episode of his podcast. When asked about the hate comments that he had received, Hamlin responded, “It’s 60:40 negative. No, it’s way more negative than that.”
However, Hamlin responded to one such comment which read, “Hack practices what you preach.” He expressed, “What am I preaching, I am confused about what am I preaching. Again if you switch roles, there is no question that I get used up, that’s just what happened, use previous instances to say what would this person do to me? I understand Kyle’s comments afterward saying, he did that to Ross, which he deserved, which Ross deserved, but I haven’t done anything to him, for him to race me that way.”
“I agree with that. I mean it’s not completely true that we haven’t had any, situations where I feel that he has used me up, in a few instances reached out to talk about those instances in the past […]”
“I feel that these roles are reversed, I get the same treatment, and because I am unpopular, should I not make that move, should I, not the same move that would be done to me? It’s a hard decision to make and it’s really hard to make in a split second and you see an opportunity to win a significant race and I made a choice. The best word for it is I don’t love it but I wouldn’t change it,” Hamlin asserted.

He asserted, “This is the first time when me and Kyle had a difference in opinion on the ending. Kansas we had the same opinion. Mine was like we were just racing and made slight contact racing for the lead and that was it. And Kyle said the same thing ‘I was lose enough, bounced off the wall, he was right there and was trying to side draft, that’s racing […]”
“I do think he is warranted to be upset, I will certainly concede that roles are reversed, I am like really dude. I know in the back of my mind though that this is new f*cking new NASCAR,” Hamlin affirmed.
With that being said, it remains to be seen how the relationship between the two drivers evolves from this point on. Will they be able to go back to their old days, or will it take a southward turn?
