Kyle Larson’s surprise return to the Chili Bowl National did not go as planned. The no.5 of Hendrick Motorsports piloted the Keith Kunz Motorsports #98 midget car at the Tulsa Expo Center in Oklahoma. However, a second flip incident to his midget car resulted in a disappointing end for the racer, who had high hopes of clinching yet another title.

He had a chance to get another shot at qualifying by competing in the soup games but also had other commitments. Larson had a scheduled event to race on another dirt event at the Wild West Shootout in New Mexico, this meant that his race at the Chili Bowl Nationals 2024 was run. Despite not making it to the main event, he followed the event and has now come up with drastic suggestions and changes for the event.

In the absence of Larson at the finale of Chili Bowl Nationals, it was Logan Seavey who took home the title battling not just his competitors but illness as well. Seavey became a two-time winner of the event on Saturday night holding Buddy Kofoid. With this title win he joined a list of drivers who have won the Chili Bowl more than once. Larson is also a part of this list.

Despite missing out on the finale of the Saturday event, Larson followed the live action and the races. Interestingly, after the event ended, he came up with a long list of improvements that Chili Bowl needs to add to their future event. There was some positive feedback but the suggestions were rather too demanding, especially the suggestion about restructuring the race week.

Larson took to X and posted screenshots of his notes, which included some key changes suggested by the HMS starman. He shared that beginners’ night should be held on Sunday for 80 odd drivers and prelims on Monday-Thursday. The race of champions is to be shifted on Monday, right from lower mains up to G main and pole shuffle event on Friday. Larson believes that with the new changes, the 55-lap finale would be equally exciting as the preliminary features.

Concluding his suggestions, he suggested minor adjustments to the safety rules of the car. The 31-year-old did appreciate the whole week of racing but was not too impressed by the finale. There was a lot of chatter amongst the fans when he put out this list. While some were in agreement, others had a different perspective.

As soon as Larson posted a long list of proposed changes to the dirt event, fans were quick to acknowledge the request and added their very own suggestion in the comments. One size does not fit all and this is certainly true for motorsport fans as anyone can check through some of the viewpoints that came in.

Agreeing with Larson’s suggestion to shift from stick signals to radio and spotter, a user wrote, “Why signal sticks over radio? The tech is there that feels like going backwards lol”.

Another user questioned his suggestion regarding the removal of arm restraints. “What’s the deal with no arm restraints? Saw a bunch of people saying that big fella that crashed needed some, but Larson says they’re unsafe?”

While there were suggestions regarding the race week and safety concerns, one particular user suggested an increase in the number of bartenders at the rodeo along with pre-made buckets. The user commented, “This was a 9 out of 10 for track prep to have that many laps on the track, and it was good racing all week until the feature. Rodeo needs more bartenders and pre-made buckets.”

One user took it a notch above, adding his inputs on how Chili Bowl could attract more viewership. “One thing that would be huge would to get it live on Motortrend or Mav or something. Flo is OK, but more eyes should mean better prize money. At least Friday and Saturday available to wider live audience”.
