Home/NASCAR

Rains have been a constant thorn in NASCAR’s side ever since the start of the season. Not just once, but on multiple occasions, races had to be either rescheduled or pushed ahead. And going by the current situation at Richmond Raceway, the rain is once again looking to play spoilsport.

NASCAR is well prepared for the potential rain on race day and therefore has decided to add wet tires to the event. While there are numerous reports about the weather forecast, some suggest a high probability of rain, while others are predicting thunderstorms. This confusion has crept into the fans, who are now speculating about the Richmond race suffering a similar fate as the Daytona 500.

With little to no competition from other sporting events and leagues, NASCAR had set itself up as the prime choice for viewers to tune in this Sunday. However, there’s a catch. The weather forecast is predicting rain and thunderstorms in the evening. This could potentially hamper NASCAR’s plan to run a night race at Richmond.

Prominent NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass took to his X account and shared an update regarding the preparation, in the event of rain for today’s race. “Weather notes: Every weather app I check has different forecast with anywhere from 30-70% rain. Have treaded tires & defoggers but no wipers, rear lights, rain flaps. Would only race in damp w/no spray & no visibility issues. Would not expect green flag any earlier than 7p ET.

If there is a light drizzle and scattered rain showers, NASCAR can put on their wet weather tires and go racing. However, in case of a heavy downpour, NASCAR will have to assess their options to wait for the rain to clear out or take a hard call of rescheduling the race for Monday. This uncertainty regarding the event has caused confusion and chaos among NASCAR fans, who are now second-guessing their plans to attend the race.

The weather prediction has garnered mixed reactions from the fans. Some are optimistic that NASCAR will indeed go racing as planned, while there are others who are not willing to take a chance against the imminent threat of rain.

High on optimism, a fan wrote, “We’re already set up to run at night, and the rain threat is supposed to end around 8 PM. Realistic worst case is a slight delay”.

While another fan wasn’t willing to risk making the trip to the venue to see the race postponed, “I’m going to pass and risk eating the costs of the tickets vice driving two hours to have to turn around and head back for a postponed race”.

Highlighting how NASCAR is looking to make the most of Easter weekend, a user suggested that NASCAR will try everything in its power to get the race up and running, “NASCAR is going to do everything possible to get this in. They don’t want to give up this primetime exposure”.

One fan suggested that given that NASCAR is equipping teams with wet weather tries, they should be good to race. “Even if it does rain it probably won’t be enough to fully postpone the race, especially if they do have the damp tires”.
