The NASCAR Playoffs are a grueling test of skill, endurance, and the ability to perform under pressure. Tyler Reddick, driving for 23XI Racing’s 45 team, was hoping to secure a spot in the Championship 4 race at Phoenix. However, his journey didn’t go as smoothly as he planned in the first race of the Round of 8 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Reddick’s aspirations were high, given his belief that he had more than one path to clinch a Championship 4 berth. However, as the race unfolded, he could neither win nor accumulate enough points to ensure his progression. NASCAR Insider Jeff Gluck weighed in on Reddick’s performance after the race. And he revealed the harsh reality the driver now faces in the upcoming races.

Throughout his career, Tyler Reddick has never advanced deep into the playoffs to compete for the championship. Now, in his first year driving for 23XI Racing, co-owned by Denny Hamlin and NBA legend Michael Jordan, the stakes are higher than ever.
As the Round of 8 kicked off in Las Vegas, Reddick found himself trailing by just 8 points below the cutoff. However, the dynamics of the playoff picture shifted when Kyle Larson secured a victory at Las Vegas, leaving Reddick in seventh place and 15 points below the cutline. With races at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Martinsville Speedway on the horizon, Reddick faces a crucial dilemma. He must either rally on points or clinch a victory in the next two races to secure a spot in the Championship 4.
NASCAR Insider Jeff Gluck shed light on the harsh reality facing Tyler Reddick. Despite his remarkable win at Kansas earlier in the playoffs, Reddick’s performance in Vegas was less than stellar. He struggled to maintain a consistent position throughout the race, finishing seventh. And it was not enough to keep pace with his competitors in terms of playoff points.
“[Tyler] Reddick won Kansas, right?” Jeff pointed out. “And you come to Vegas and you think well, Reddick, I mean, if there’s anybody who could you know, from outside sort of the JGR-Hendrick Camp, I think it would be Reddick that could jump up there and win this race or finish top three or something. They were off, I mean, to get back up to 7th was an accomplishment.”
“They were outside the top 10 a decent amount of the day. He seemed, you know, kind of surprised and discouraged a little bit. Said afterward, yeah, you know he would have thought this was his best chance to win and lock in. Even though he’s great at Homestead. So yeah, I think you know that puts a lot more pressure on him now because with his lack of playoff points in general going into this round,” he concluded.

Tyler Reddick described his race in Las Vegas as a “head-scratcher.” The #45 car had moments of excellence but was equally challenging to handle at times. While his car displayed moments of brilliance during practice, it also proved to be a handful during the race.
Reddick stated according to FOX Sports, “In practice, that thing was a rocket ship. But it was a handful at the same time. And just today, for whatever reason, I just felt like it was great at moments, and at others, it felt like I was getting ready to wreck. It was just an absolute handful. Kind of unlike what we normally have at the mile-and-a-half [tracks]. Just not having the balance that we needed to. With what I felt like our car was fighting handling-wise, I think [it was] honestly a really good day for us.”

Looking ahead, Reddick expressed his confidence in Homestead, a track where he has excelled in the past. The 23XI Racing team’s strength at Martinsville also offers hope for the upcoming races. Reddick will lean on his team, which includes veteran crew chief Billy Scott, to navigate the challenges.
Denny Hamlin, co-owner of 23XI Racing, believes that Reddick’s lack of championship experience won’t put him at a disadvantage. Experience does matter, but Hamlin emphasized, “The car doesn’t know who the driver is or what team it is.”
