“I’m not even anywhere in the top 10, I don’t think,” is what Tyler Reddick confessed about him not being his son, Beau’s favorite driver. Around two years back, NASCAR reporter Jeff Gluck mentioned the phrase “Daddy Chase” to him. At that moment, the look on Reddick’s face was pretty sour. Now, things have changed.

With the 2023 season coming to an end, Beau’s preferences have started to differ. He seems more inclined toward the 23XI Racing driver now, and Reddick disclosed what brought about this change in his son.

During the latest rendition of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, while discussing the feeling of role reversal that the driver experiences when their kids or very young drivers come to the racetracks, Reddick revealed, “All I could think of is you know all the times that Beau comes to drive with me and I’m just like, ‘Oh my Gosh! The money!'”

Reddick then confessed that Chase Elliott is one of Beau’s favorite drivers but also unmasked how the #9 driver’s snowboarding accident, followed by a tumultuous 2023 season, helped toward the change in his preference. He said, “It was Chase for a very very long time. Chase is still like one of his favorites, but it’s been really, you know, maybe because I won some races, I know Chase had a lot of things going wrong for him this year.”

“Maybe he’s just gotten older,” Reddick added lovingly.

The #45 driver went further and revealed that Beau hasn’t explicitly unveiled his favorite driver but also shed light on the chronology in which his son takes the names of NASCAR drivers. He said, “I wouldn’t say he’s got a number one favorite but he’ll always say ‘Daddy, Bubba, Chase, and then he’ll say Denny.’

Reddick’s words point toward a sharp shift in preferences as Beau, who earlier used to say “Daddy Chase” upon looking at any Cup car, now says Tyler Reddick’s name first. But how did Reddick make this happen?

It’s not very long ago that Beau’s favorite driver was without a doubt, the #9 Hendrick Motorsports driver. But due to his dismaying season and with Reddick’s efforts, Beau’s liking changed. While disclosing the possible reasons that could’ve brought Beau closer to the road racing sensation said, “I think what’s honestly helped is that I’ve been at the team, I’ve found some of Kurt’s [Busch] little die-casts and some of mine and gotten it to him. He has more gravity towards me.”

As Beau has gotten older, he’s started to recognize that his father is a NASCAR driver and a very good one for that matter. Not to mention his two wins, 10 top-5 finishes, and 16 top-10 finishes during the 2023 season.
