Pit crew challenges that have left the talented driver yearning for better fortunes have punctuated the journey of Tyler Reddick. This season, 23XI Racing made a significant shift by bringing pit crews in-house, breaking away from their prior alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing. While this move has granted the team more autonomy. The transition has come with its fair share of growing pains. The development and training of pit crew members now occur within the 23XI Racing framework. Reddick’s pursuit of victory faced a hurdle at the Michigan International Speedway, where a late-race pit road blunder derailed his impressive drive. However, this mishap wasn’t an isolated incident. Earlier races in Richmond and Nashville also witnessed pit-road issues that hindered the performance of the #23 team and fellow ambitious driver, Bubba Wallace. Despite the challenges, the 23XI Racing team has displayed remarkable speed on the racetrack, setting the stage for exciting races ahead.
At the media briefing ahead of the race at Watkins Glen, Reddick was asked if what the team has learned from their mistakes will translate into a smoother playoff run. “With some of the adversity that you guys have faced just from lack of execution or whatnot, as you’ve discussed. What have you learned about this 45 team throughout the summer? Can those lessons be applied throughout the playoffs? Like does that factor into any lessons learned I guess through the past few weeks?”
“Yeah, the one thing that’s probably the most difficult part of it is just showing up to the racetrack every weekend with a shot to win. And we’ve been doing that for the majority of the year,” said Reddick. “We’ve got a lot of speed, so that is a difficult part right? But where it gets frustrating is when we don’t capitalize on it.”
“We get the finishes that we probably should be getting. But the speed’s there, right? And how we’re getting it is been consistent. So we’re just going to keep pushing on that front and hopefully, the things that have been mistakes, the lessons along the way stick. And you know we can just hit our marks and execute when it matters,“ he concluded.

Amidst consistent on-course mishaps and pit crew challenges. 23XI Racing’s team president, Steve Lauletta, steps up with a promise of brighter prospects for the team’s drivers, Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick. Lauletta’s assurance comes as a beacon of hope after a series of disappointments during pit stops have left both drivers frustrated.
The decision to bring pit crews in-house marked a strategic move by 23XI Racing to establish itself as a formidable player in NASCAR. Despite the challenges that have accompanied this transition. Lauletta’s emphasis on steady improvement and learning from setbacks shines through. The team president acknowledges the importance of evaluating all aspects of race weekends and the commitment to rectify pit crew issues.
Lauletta outlined the issues and possible solutions when speaking to NASCAR.com via a telephone interview. “Of course, we’re always looking at that. We’re looking at every aspect of what happens on the weekend. And it’s been unfortunate that we’ve had a number of execution issues. Whether on pit lane or on the racetrack. You know, it hasn’t been one thing consistently. But the consistency has been, we show up with really fast race cars and haven’t gotten to the finish and earned the finishes that we deserve. And so we’re always working on how to fix those things.”

“When you start something from scratch, there’s going to be some bumps in the road,” Lauletta continued. “And so we’re doing our best to limit those. Unfortunately, they’ve come up in times when we’ve been in position to win races. It’s still frustrating if it’s meaning you’re going from a 15th-place finish to a 25th-place finish. But when you’re in position to have a really, really great day, that’s when we’ve got to make sure we’re doing everything we can to address any sort of issues.”
