Tyler Reddick Opens Up on Numbness in His Leg During the NASCAR Race at Fontana

With a Stage 1 and Stage 2 win under his belt, Tyler Reddick was set to earn the first Cup win of his career. But then, just as the Busch Clash at the Coliseum, an issue with his car, this time a puncture in the left rear meant he had to slow down, which was then made worse by a crash by an out-of-control William Byron, effectively ending Reddick’s race.

However, during the race in which he largely dominated, Reddick had complained of some personal discomfort. This was the numbness the Richard Childress Racing driver was feeling in his leg, something which he opened up about in a post-race interview.

Reddick explained how he couldn’t use the brakes, how he wasn’t aware of how hard he was pushing the pedal. “It’s like, what was happening, it’s like if you ever sit on your leg…and whenever you stand up, you realize it’s asleep. That’s what it feels like,” he said.

Reddick described how, despite loosening up the belts, the problem persisted.

“It’s kind of a head-scratcher. I’ve gotta figure out why it was happening.”

After being wrecked by William Byron, Reddick made his way to the pits. By the time his crew repaired the damage and he made his way out, he was already two laps down and ultimately finished 24th.

Naturally, Tyler Reddick was upset with the way his race shaped up.

“Absolutely gutted by how our race unfolded but I couldn’t be prouder of this whole team and what we were able to do a majority of this race today,” Reddick said after the race.

But he also remained optimistic about the coming week.

“We will keep this momentum going to Las Vegas next week,” he said. “We will learn from this, we will become stronger from this and be hungrier than ever before.”

With three races behind us so far this season, Tyler Reddick has given us a glimpse of just how capable he is of not only winning races but winning them on a consistent level.

The fact that he hasn’t won any yet is down to his bad luck.

But it wouldn’t be long before his team fixes these reliability issues and give their driver a chance to compete for the championship.
