Denny Hamlin went from sailing on top of the skies to crashing down directly on the seabed within hours after the NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, despite taking the checkered flag, despite taking the trophy and champagne home from the victory lane, wasn’t the actual winner.

This was because his #11 Toyota Camry was deemed illegal after a post-race inspection, leaving him and his teammate in second place, Kyle Busch, disqualified from the race, making the third-place finisher Chase Elliott, the winner.

However, Hamlin still had the trophy and the champagne. But it wasn’t his.

So what he did do?

Well, he put it up on eBay, while also savoring the last moments he had with the two.

Chase Elliott doesn’t want the trophy won by Denny Hamlin

When NASCAR announced Chase Elliott as the winner of the race in Pocono, the driver was already on a plane back home. It was not until he landed several hours later that he learned of his victory.

But while you’d assume Elliott having a reaction of joy and jubilance, the reality was far from it.

The reality being that the Hendrick Motorsports driver refused to have the trophy, personally acknowledge the win, and naturally, any celebration.

“I’m not going to celebrate someone’s misfortune,” Elliott said. “That doesn’t seem right to me. I crossed the line third. That’s kind of how I’m looking at it.”
