The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Ty Gibbs and Hendrick Motorsports driver, William Byron, had a racing incident. Gibbs lost traction and ran straight into the doors of Byron’s Camaro. This led to them losing their battle for the lead and placed them outside of the top 20 in Watkins Glen International.

Although, the way #54 driver Gibbs went for it clearly showed his intention to win. He really didn’t want to withdraw from the battle.

Post-race Gibbs said, “Going into the bus stop two-wide definitely not ever works, But I felt like I had to do it. I didn’t want to pull by and let him win.”

Moreover, he said, “I felt like that was my only shot because I feel like we were both equally fast and I feel like letting him by, I’m gonna lose that gap in the bus stop and I don’t know if I’m ever gonna get that back for the rest of the race.” 

He also added, “So just trying to go for it. I feel like that was win or lose right there and if you would go back and look at it, we’re all pinched up on that curb and I just got loose and wrecked us both, so it’s my fault.”

Similarly, this incident reminded many of the famous Senna quote, “If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver.” Inicident like this showed the will to win attitude of the NASCAR Xfinity driver, Ty Gibbs.

After watching, both the drivers spun around like that; everyone was curious about the post match comments from these exceptional drivers. Although, the post race interaction between the drivers resulted in a straightforward interaction. Nothing to worry about.

Gibbs said, “I feel like he was very mature in that situation and he could have probably punched me but he didn’t, but you know, he’s a very, very mature and respectable driver as we’ve all saw with him coming through the ranks.”

“But it was my fault and he just came up and asked me and I feel like I respect that. I just was going for the win.”, added Gibbs.

A frustrating result for both of them, with slightly Gibbs more at fault. Byron was mature enough to understand the circumstances they were in.
