When the season ended and Ty Dillon found himself out of a seat for the 2024 NASCAR season, most people linked him to vacant Cup or Xfinity Series seats. Not many people would have expected him to opt to go to the Truck Series for a full season with Rackley W.A.R. Some fans have suggested that Dillon did not get any decent offers from the teams higher up on the NASCAR ladder but Richard Childress’ grandson tells a different story.

In the 2024 season, Ty Dillon will be racing full-time in the Truck Series, driving the #25 truck for Rackley W.A.R. The last time the 31-year-old ran a full season in the competition was back in 2013 for Richard Childress Racing. His most recent appearance in a truck came in 2021 when he finished P25 for Bret Holmes Racing in Phoenix.

Dillon recently revealed the behind-the-scenes secrets leading up to the Rackley W.A.R. signing. It turns out that the 31-year-old was on a lot of teams’ radars. In an interview with SiriusXM Radio, the former Cup Series driver also mentioned that his decision to go back to the Truck Series came from a need to be competitive enough to win races.

“There were a lot of options on the table starting during the off-season and knowing that I wasn’t going to be returning to Spire Motorsports, I just wanted to figure out what would be the best for where I want to be and where I want to go. For me, it’s been a while since I’ve been in a competitive…a chance to win every single week…I wanted to get back to that, you see there’s been a bit of a successful model and that’s actually been many if not more drivers jumping from the Truck Series to the Cup Series,” the former Spire Motorsports driver said.

To say that Ty Dillon had a disappointing season in 2023 would be an understatement. Richard Childress’ grandson failed to finish in the top 10 even once in the Cup Series. It was no surprise that he was shown the door by Spire Motorsports at the end of the season. The goal now will be to build his confidence back up and make a grand comeback.

To that end, the 31-year-old is looking forward to being back in the Truck Series mix after more than a decade. He will be driving the #25 truck which was driven by Matt DiBenedetto last season. It will be interesting to see how he transitions into the competition after such a long time away.

“To have an option of running for a team like Rackley WAR in the Craftsman Truck Series is very exciting and I think the sky is the limit for what we can do this year.
