During NASCAR’s outing in Texas in March, Bubba Wallace had an incident on the track because of which his day ended early. Now, every racecar driver has bad days and bad phases. After all, in motorsports, you lose more often than you win.
But Wallace was perhaps a bit too self-critical at the Circuit of The Americas, considering how he assessed himself and what he proposed his team do to him.
“Just trying my hardest not to go down this slippery slope of self-doubt right here,” Wallace had said. “Two weeks in a row of making rookie mistakes six years into Cup? Need to be replaced.”

Bubba Wallace is so focused on NASCAR, he has no clue what’s going on in NBA
Obviously, Wallace wasn’t replaced. He is still racing the #23 Toyota Camry for 23XI Racing. In fact, he achieved better results after COTA as he has finished inside the top 20 twice and once inside the top 10 in the five races since.
And while there haven’t been more of those rants aimed at self, 2x WNBA champion Renee Montgomery reminded him not once but twice that there not be more of those.
In a recent conversation with Montgomery, Wallace opened up on how focused he is in NASCAR as of late that he has no idea what’s going on in the NBA Playoffs.
He explained, “I’ve been so focused that, this last month, we’re trying to get this ship turned around. And I’ve been so locked in on trying to get the physical self better, that I seen something pop up on—like apple news pops up on your phone—and it’s like ‘Game 2, Steph Curry.’
“And I’m like, ‘Oh D*mn! we’re in Playoffs now. I need to turn on my TV now.
“This is usually when I turn my TV on, and I’ve just been behind, ‘coz I’m focusing on my c**p.”
Considering the fortitude and focus required of a Cup Series driver, it is no surprise that Wallace tries to shut himself off from the outside world. However, could it be a reason why he is so hard on himself?

As Wallace mentioned the subject of his “c**p,” Montgomery took the opportunity to remind him he needs to be less hard on himself. “Speaking of your c**p […] You need to talk nice to you because I’ve seen some of your interviews and you’re like your own worst critic in the world,” she said.
“So first of all talk nice to you because I know what that’s like.”
Even towards the end of their conversation, she made a note to remind Wallace once again of being easy on himself as she said, “I’mma tell you as I leave out of here, Bubba, talk nice to you, okay?”
