With the spirits of yet another racing weekend beginning to grace us again, every garage in the NASCAR fraternity will be tuning engines to push the throttle toward deep red. The regular season is almost at an end, and we are just weeks away from the highly anticipated 2023 Cup Series playoffs. But that is not before we go through the crucial Daytona International Speedway, after Watkins Glen, which will play a part in deciding who will be the final 16 racers who will see postseason life.

In interesting times when tensions and heart rates are pumping high all around NASCAR’s radar, Corey LaJoie, the driver for Spire Motorsports, sat down for a breezy chat with fellow racer Justin Haley, who has just signed a multi-year deal with Rick Ware Racing. Conversing on an episode of “Stacking Pennies with Corey LaJoie”, Corey had some impish comments to pass about Justin’s body.

Justin Haley’s appearance on the podcast comes when the ink on his new deal with Rick Ware Racing has not yet dried completely. Currently driving the No. 31 Chevrolet Camaro for Kaulig Racing, the 24-year-old got into the discussion with a recall of a crash that he suffered recently that involved Corey LaJoie.

As Justin detailed his genuine problem with being a “short guy”, the conversation moved on to how Corey was watching a replay of the Daytona 500 and came to notice the difference in body size between Justin and Front Row Motorsports driver, Todd Gilliland.

Speaking with jest about his observation, he said, “And there was a, like a shot down the back straightaway. And it’s you and Todd Gilliland, knows the tail, and you’re coming down the pit and you’re like, two fingers are sticking out. And Todd Gilliland’s forearm and hand sticking out like, Oh my goodness! That’s the difference in height.”

While many would have taken this abrupt comment in a bad light, Justin got in on Corey’s fun and played along.

Joining Corey LaJoie and Justin Haley was podcast co-host and Team Penske tire changer Ryan “Skip” Flores. As Justin threaded along Corey’s comments about his height by sharing another situation where his height wasn’t his best ally, he talked about a race that he ran in Michigan that involved Austin Cedric, driver for Team Penske.

Throwing back on the unfortunate incident, he shared how he was unable to reach beyond a tall Austin. He said, “Yeah, I was behind uh Cedric in Michigan. Did a little green flag pit stop and I swear it was all the way to his elbow net. You know, I got to loosen up the old belt and like… (laughs)”

Sharing in on the joke, Ryan termed Austin Cedric a “bean stalk”. Though it was thrown in on the spur of the moment and in the spirit of lightness, how well the No. 2 Ford Mustang driver receives this comment is yet to be known.
