While the world was celebrating Thanksgiving, a bloody war broke out on X as Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway supporters clashed heads with the so-called “preservation” group ultimately ending in a Thanksgiving tug of war. “Preservationists” that don’t preserve,” wrote a fan who furiously slammed Cumberland Yard for their hypocritical stance and their juvenile act of pushing to silence the disagreement.

Trying to tear down one of the most adored tracks in the country, and converting it into an open space with an EV race track is bound to consequences. More so, when the track has a solid foundation and a rich NASCAR pedigree of more than 119 years. But instead of setting the dispute like men, the self-titled “Preservationists” have taken a different approach to quench the flames using the “report” icon that only fanned up the fire into a roaring blaze.

The whole debacle started a few years back when Metro Nashville’s group of magnates started a bulldozer campaign to convert the country’s 2nd oldest track into an EV racing course with green and housing space. While the local residents around Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway deemed that racing at the half-a-mile track was too noisy, fans just couldn’t let go of a historical venue, sparking a clash of interests.

The city officials including the current Mayor’s inclination towards the ambitious tear-down project only made things worse, turning this into an ugly political tug of war with former drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr and former Mayor, John Cooper holding their ground. Fans got together, spearheading social media campaigns by starting forums like “Restore Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway,” shedding light on the rich history of the track.

However, things took a wild turn when the Fairgrounds Preservation Partners tried to stifle the rebellion. When fans took the fight to the partners Cumberland Yard dealt the situation awfully wrong only worsening the situation by reporting the fan comments that eventually gave the Restoration movement more traction.

The group’s immature response not only gave the fans a common enemy but in the process got them united, fighting for the bigger cause of not letting their favorite track be laid to waste.

Taking up the fight to Cumberland Yard was the “Save the Speedway” foundation which was initially started to save the dying North Wilkesboro track and restore it to its full glory. The group’s “X” handle promptly jumped onto the scene when the supposed preservation partners tried to quench the fire. Tweeting out a screenshot of their “X” handle that read,

“Preserving the Nashville Fairgrounds’ legacy of open space, music and auto racing. Abuse, profanity, and threats of violence by NASCAR fans will be reported,” the foundation blasted the self-titled preservation group, mocking their strategy.

This eventually got the online fandom talking, prompting them to bombard Cumberland Yard’s account with comments, starting out an all-out online war. One fan wrote, “Let’s report their page” while another one commented, “lol what a bunch of losers.” “I only stated facts and got banned. They don’t want people to see how shady they’re being,” wrote a fan who was banned and reported only for stating the obvious.

In fact, Cumberland Yard might have shot itself in the foot with this one as fans made this a prestige issue, a matter of their pride.
