The SageNet Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma saw a future star stamp his presence. Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch and 2021 Cup champ Kyle Larson enrolled in the Tulsa Shootout. Not only that, but their sons, Brexton Busch and Owen Larson, were also there. However, the latter ended up revving up the party a little bit more, as they flipped the script their dads followed in the 2024 Cup Series season.

Brexton Busch takes the highest pedestal

We all know what happened to Kyle Busch in 2024 – zero wins, multiple heartbreaks, and 8 DNFs. On the other hand, Kyle Larson won 6 races and came close to the title. However, nobody expected Brexton Busch to reverse his father’s dismal narrative by the turn of the year. The 9-year-old phenom already had a multitude of laurels to his credit. In 2024 alone, he clinched 48 wins, 126 top-tens, and 107 top-fives. As the little speedster headed to Tulsa, he set the racetrack on fire.

Bringing home a Golden Driller at the Mecca of Micros is the ultimate goal of any racer. And Brexton Busch managed to do just that – while Kyle Larson’s son Owen faded in the back. The Junior Sprint race saw Brexton firing it away for the last few laps, not letting any of his opponents catch up to him. He eventually won, while Owen Larson finished 6th. In a hilarious tweet, NASCAR insider Freddie Kraft shared what one of Busch’s peers said to cheer for him: “Race the b-lls off the car” -Gage Pio… Maybe 10 years old? 😂😂” Then Xfinity Series star Jesse Love also rooted for the little racer: “BFB!”

Brexton Busch is in the motorsports spotlight – presenting a solid threat to Kyle Larson’s son and his future. Busch has picked up championships like berries in a garden – he is the KKM Challenge Jr. Sprint Champion, Millbridge Restricted Points Champion, PA Speedweek Jr Sprint Champion, and INEX Winter Nats Bandit Champ. Veteran racers have hailed Busch’s extraordinary capabilities. Retired Xfinity star Kenny Wallace recently hailed Busch’s stellar result in a Tulsa race. “My heart was so happy to see Brexton Busch. Brexton won his race and started sixth. However, what impressed me the most about Brexton was his interview after the race.”

Receiving respect from your foremost rival is a sign that you are a true winner. Brexton Busch achieved that at the Tulsa Shootout recently. Kyle Larson had a tough outing in the A-Class Winged Heat Race. He fought his way from the 7th to the runner-up spot. Then sprint car star Frank Flud outsmarted the Hendrick Motorsports phenom, holding off Larson’s hard charge to the finish. However, Larson’s son had a different turn of events. Before losing to Brexton, 10-year-old Owen Larson could boast of a race win. After a 6th place finish in FuelTech Race 76, Owen pulled off a remarkable victory in FuelTech Race 138.

Owen Larson proved his mettle in the Junior Sprint Heat Race, running from 8th to 1st place. He must have brought smiles to his father Kyle’s face. Plus he struck up a good-natured camaraderie with his rival. Owen confessed he had watched Brexton Busch’s jaw-dropping performance in FuelTech Race 135, where the latter sliced up the field from the back. And that sighting inspired Owen to make some moves on his own. The little speedster told FloRacing, “Right here we’re over at staging. I saw Brexton on the thumb. And he kind of jumped it. So I was gonna do the same thing and it worked out for me and Brexton.”

What could be better than a good-natured equation between two young rivals? Brexton Busch and Owen Larson may be the future stars of racing, and this definitely is a good sign of their upcoming careers.
