The NASCAR Truck Series and wrecks seem to go hand-in-hand these days, and the Texas race saw one within the first couple of laps. Richard Petty‘s grandson, Thad Moffitt, got loose and took out Tyler Ankrum in the #18 truck. The out-of-control #46 could have taken out more drivers like Rajah Caruth and Bryan Dauzat, but thankfully, only one other competitor was affected. However, Ankrum was unhappy about the wreck, despite it being unintentional, and had some choice words for Moffitt.
Richard Petty’s grandson’s unintentional incident frustrated Tyler Ankrum
Tyler Ankrum let out his vocal side as he slammed Thad Moffitt and the drivers for being squirrels, as per veteran NASCAR journalist Toby Christie. Perhaps he did not realize that there was not much Moffitt could have done in a situation like that. At the end of the day, Tyler Ankrum is a racer, and it’s always frustrating when your race ends prematurely.

“You hang out with the squirrels; you’re going to get your nuts cracked,” he said when asked about the accident. When the replay was shown, it became clear that there was something wrong with Thad Moffitt’s car. The details of the issue have not been revealed yet, but at first glance, it seemed like there was something wrong with the left front; it just seemed stuck and would not turn.

He seemed to understand that the incident was completely an accident. However, that did not make him any less frustrated. Tyler Ankrum is contending for the Truck Series championship this year, and a result like this will undoubtedly hurt him and his team. But there’s no time to dwell on the past.

Disappointed McAnally-Hilgeman Racing star will look for redemption
The next Truck Series race will be in Kansas, and the driver of the #18 truck will be looking to make a solid comeback. In an interview with veteran journalist Bob Pockrass outside the care center, the 23-year-old said that he tried whatever he could to avoid the crash, but it was just a little too late. But the speed of his truck was promising, and he hoped to have something similar next weekend.
“I just saw the #46 way out of the groove, and it looked like he was gonna stay up, and he started coming down the track and I just did everything I could to try and get him to slow down and it was just not enough, too little too late so it sucks. We had some fast trucks today, and now we gotta try and take the same ones to Kansas. Yeah, it sucks in general. Not just for myself but for Chevrolet…more importantly the guys who built these things. Coming to the next five-week stretch, it’s more difficult on everyone so all I gotta do is say sorry to the guys at MHR for being in this ridiculous situation,” Ankrum said.
