Merely three weeks into 2024, trouble has come looking for Josh Berry and his team at Kevin Harvick Inc. ahead of his much-anticipated Cup Series outing with Stewart-Haas Racing. With the Late-Model legend replacing the 2014 Cup Series champion in the #4 SHR Ford, the whole community is all eyes on Berry’s 2024 run with Tony Stewart and the team.

Coming to the recent happenings, before the commencement of the Cup Series schedule, Josh Berry’s Speedfest run, stated for the next few days, has gone off rails, owing to a disappointing disqualification after the rule book change caught the crew off-guard, in the worst time possible—the day before the race.

Despite his tumultuous Xfinity Series campaign, Josh Berry managed to make a name for himself, donning the super-sub role and utilizing it to the max. Berry’s talent behind the wheel and his experience in Late-Model circles made him a worthy replacement for Kevin Harvick as Tony Stewart pulled the ropes and announced their new #4 driver in place of the outgoing veteran.

Getting on the grind set, Josh Berry wasted no time after the 2023 grand finale, he teamed up with KHI with Childers as his crew chief at Hickory Motor Speedway and Florence Motor Speedway later last year. But despite all the efforts, it looks like bad luck and misfortune are still holding back the driver and the team. Stating the same Matt Weaver shared on X, highlighting how Josh Berry missed an important 2024 update.

Josh Berry, who scored the third-best time for the Speedfest marathon at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia, has been disqualified. The time was disallowed for an air filter cleaner that was one inch above tolerance, which will have him start from the rear end.

The rule was amended this year with the stipulation mentioning that the air filter should be no more than four inches, but the KHI car had a five-inch cleaner as the crew missed the update and overlooked the rule change, prompting the officials to step in.

31-year-old Casey Roderick put his team, Platinum Anthony Campi Racing’s #26, at the top of the qualifying charts, while Berry’s P3 qualifying run was stuffed. Reacting to the official decision, Josh Berry admitted his team’s carelessness and took the blame on themselves rather than denying it or finding fault with the promotion’s new mandate.

According to Shorttrackscene.com, Josh Berry said, “I guess that’s an updated rule for 2024. I don’t know, I haven’t looked at the update but I’m sure it’s right and we were wrong. This is still a new car, a new program, and when you’re working on getting your boxes wrapped and all that stuff, still trying to learn the car, you just overlook some things sometimes.”
