This year’s Daytona 500 season opener was something to witness. We saw multiple wrecks take place, particularly near the end of the race, flipping over the chances for drivers such as Kyle Busch within a blink of an eye. With all the action that transpired, Busch missed out once more on his chance to win the most prestigious race in the NASCAR calendar once again.
Fellow NASCAR driver and Rowdy’s former teammate Denny Hamlin recently praised Busch and also talked about what he thought about the team effort pulled off by the Richard Childress Racing drivers. He also explained what he considered to be the main reason behind Busch’s loss from the win.

During the latest episode of his podcast “Actions Detrimental,” Hamlin stated, “They did the right move. Kyle and Austin made the right move to try to get the race in control before it got to the white flag because most likely we were gonna get a caution which we did.

“But yeah, they were in control. They just tried too hard to help each other. I mean, it’s just kind of that’s kind of what happened.”

It was the very end of the race, where Busch and teammate Austin Dillon were working together for the win. However, everything took a catastrophic turn for the team. Within a blink of an eye, a wreck took place, wiping Dillion out in the process as well.
Later on, during the final lap, Busch’s day was ruined as well. He spun out during a last-lap wreck that involved several other drivers including Kyle Larson and Bubba Wallace. Busch, later on, ended up at the infield care center. What could have been the ultimate redemption for Busch by winning the race, ended in chaos and tempers flaring among drivers.

Overall the race was a giant fest for back-to-back last-minute wrecks. Eventually, the race was pushed into overtime. And at the end of it all, it was an unexpected Ricky Stenhouse Jr who took the win at the Daytona 500.
