Is Kyle Busch right to call out Corey LaJoie for his shifting narratives and blame games?

Last weekend at Pocono, one of the biggest talking points was the incident between Kyle Busch and Corey LaJoie. At this point, one really has to wonder if Busch crossed paths with a black cat at the start of the season. The sheer amount of bad luck that he is experiencing is so ridiculous that it is almost sad.

Last year, he enjoyed a decent run with three wins under his belt. Unfortunately, things are not looking so rosy in 2024, as he is still on the hunt for his first win of the season. Admittedly, he wasn’t expecting any miracles at Pocono, but he would have loved to secure a good finish. Sadly, LaJoie ruined that for him when the #7 Spire Motorsports driver punted him out and caused a multi-car wreck.

Afterwards, there was a bit of a debate on whether it was deliberate or not. Especially when LaJoie’s team radio messages surfaced, there were interesting implications. Corey LaJoie went on his Stacking Pennies podcast and tried to absolve himself of any blame. However, Kyle Busch revealed his side of the story in conversation with Pat McAfee.

Busch had every right to be mad, as it was implied that LaJoie turned him on purpose. Afterwards, it seems that cooler heads prevailed, so the #7 driver tried to extend an olive branch. However, Kyle Busch was of the opinion that he was being insincere, and he snubbed his rival.

Kyle Busch mentioned on the Pat McAfee Show as per its July 19 episode, “Corey tried to blame me twice, then he changed his story. Anyways, I need to stop giving fame to those that don’t deserve it. The Nashville one, I was fourth in line on the restart, Kyle Larson was in front of me. He ran out of gas, his teammate behind didn’t check up in time. None of us checked up in time, we didn’t expect it, so I just got spit out of the middle, into the wall and ended our race. That wasn’t really anybody’s fault, just circumstantial.”

In essence, he was talking about the other times when he was caught up in a wreck. Aside from his infamous bust-up with Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Busch acknowledged that most of his other wrecks were accidental. Though he did admit that Ross Chastain’s last gasp dive-bomb at Sonoma, was uncalled for. This was because it forced him to waste precious fuel trying to right his car.

Kyle Busch fans had better look away now, because things do not look good. His on-track performances have shown that it is not a skill issue, but more often than not, his equipment is poor. It isn’t even a case of a bad worker blaming his tools, because the tools definitely deserve the blame.

Rowdy did admit that he has been unlucky on a few occasions. Especially when he picks up unnecessary penalties for speeding, a pit box violation, or just bad strategy. However, those instances are far outstripped by the times when the car’s pace has not been up to scratch.

Now, he will be hoping for a change in fortune this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This is a race track that he has triumphed at twice in the past, once in 2015 and then in 2016. However, none of his fans should get their hopes up, unless a miracle happens. Stay tuned for more Rowdy updates.
