Ross Chastain's latest reveal: Genius strategy or the dumbest move in Trackhouse Racing history?

NASCAR fans are in for a surprise when Cup Series action finally returns after a two-week Olympics break. Ross Chastain’s No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro will be featuring a brand new paint scheme at Richmond Raceway, thanks to a sponsorship with Jockey International Inc. The Trackhouse Racing car will feature the familiar red, white, and blue colors that Jockey is known for, as the brand not only looks to showcase its creativity but also launch a new line of apparel with this collaboration.

Chastain, who will be hoping to secure his first win of the season to secure a playoff spot, will be assured that all eyes will be on him at Richmond Raceway. The paint scheme has gone down well with fans, many of whom took to social media to share their views about the No. 1 Chevy’s new look.

The objective of Jockey’s paint scheme is to give an illusion of transparency, depicting Ross Chastain sitting in his No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 while wearing nothing but his Jockey Infinite Cool boxer briefs. With no air conditioning, the heat generated from the engine, breaks, and drive line can result in cars getting as hot as 100-140 degrees Fahrenheit. The paint scheme is Jockey’s way of getting attention from fans on television and in the stands while highlighting the cooling benefits of their newly launched Jockey Infinite Cool underwear.

Speaking about his No. 1 Chevy’s new look, Trackhouse Racing driver, Chastain, said, “I love this unique collaboration with Jockey. The new paint scheme is a cheeky way to showcase the incredible comfort of Jockey Infinite Cool underwear. Racing in the summer heat can be intense, and knowing I’ve got the best cooling gear on makes all the difference. I can’t wait to hit the track and see the fans’ reactions!”

The unique paint scheme for Ross Chastain’s car was unveiled on August 5th, in celebration of National Underwear Day. As part of this sponsorship, the brand hopes to highlight the importance of staying cool, especially during the summer months, while bringing in a fun paint scheme for fans to enjoy. Daniel Suarez’s No. 99 Chevrolet Camaro is also set to feature a similar paint scheme before the race at Michigan International Speedway. Jockey has been a sponsor of Trackhouse Racing since 2022, and their brand has consistently featured on the No. 1 and No. 99 Chevys since then.

While most drivers were relaxing, or getting married during the Olympics break, Ross Chastain chose to spend it by making his IMSA sports car debut at Road America, partnering with Ken Fukuda. Driving the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for Skip Barber Racing, the pair finished 24th in the race, but proved to be a valuable learning experience for Chastain. Currently winless in the Cup Series, his spot in the playoff is looking doubtful after finishing outside the top 20 in three of the last four races. With Federated Auto Parts 400 on the horizon, Chastain will hope to reignite his playoff hopes, while fans will be looking at the paint scheme of his No. 1 Chevy Camaro.

As expected, the bizarre paint scheme adoring Ross Chastain’s No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 brought about plenty of reactions from fans, many of whom took to social media to express their views. Enjoying the transparency illusion that the sponsorship with Jockey was giving, NASCAR fans couldn’t get enough of the car, going as far as saying that they wanted a scale model featuring the exact paint scheme. A fan wrote on Reddit, “This paint scheme is stupid as all hell. I love it and I want a diecast.” Echoing that sentiment, another fan said, “This needs to be released as a diecast!!”

Jockey’s simple, yet brilliant marketing campaign to highlight the cooling benefits of their new apparel line went down well with NASCAR fans. Complimenting the quirky nature of the paint scheme, a fan wrote, “This is the dumbest shit ever. I love it”. One fan believed that Jockey could have taken the sponsorship with Trackhouse Racing one step further, ensuring that Ross Chastain was wearing a firesuit that would match the paint scheme of his No. 1 Chevy. The fan wrote on Reddit, “The only way that it’d be better is if he got a firesuit to match”.

Despite complimenting Trackhouse Racing’s creative paint schemes, one fan expressed his hopes that Chastain will be back to his best when the Cup Series season resumes at Richmond Raceway. As things stand, the 31-year-old is ranked 13th in the driver standings, with two top-five and seven top-ten results this season. However, no wins in 22 races put him in a position where a spot in the playoff is looking increasingly unlikely. Hoping that Chastain turns his season around, the fan wrote, “Gosh trackhouse always has the best schemes. Yet they’re cars are always so shitty! Ross better be back to normal then after this break is over.”
