Trackhouse Racing has been in the NASCAR Cup Series for a few years now and one thing team owner Justin Marks has learned is that being consistently competitive in this sport is one of the toughest things in the world. So when the wins do come, there is a lot of emotion and jubilation. However, with Daniel Suarez on Sunday, there was also a lot of anxiety leading up to the finish of the 2024 Ambetter Health 400.
The race saw one of the closest finishes in the history of stock car racing as Suarez, Kyle Busch, and Ryan Blaney fought to the line. It took a while for race control to determine the winner, as it was a matter of centimeters between the 3 drivers. During that time, there was a lot of anticipation among the three contesting drivers and teams, and the tension was palpable.

Justin Marks did not like it one bit. In a recent interview on SiriusXM Radio, the NASCAR and MotoGP team owner said that the moments leading up to race control’s decision were agonizingly anxious. That winning feeling in the Cup Series is something Trackhouse Racing has not felt a lot of times. They had only won 6 races since 2021 until that moment.
So when Daniel Suarez broke his winless streak and took the team’s seventh victory on Saturday, the Chevy team burst into joy. Ultimately, the goal is to get that consistency and be able to fight the top teams, hopefully for the championship at some point. And it’s race victories like this, which end up being the biggest source of motivation.
“TV was behind, so we were actually watching the final lap while they were trying to determine who won. So at that point I knew they came across the start line 3 wide like that but you’re just waiting with bated breath. Same thing with the #12 and same thing with the #8. You’re just holding your breath and you’re sort of waiting for that call from that tower to come down…blank to victory lane and hope that it’s your number. But it’s a little agonizing because you’re sort of like…wanna win this thing so bad. You just so badly wanted to happen that if you’re a man of god, you pray and if not you wait,” Justin Marks said in the SiriusXM interview.

The race was not a moment of relief just for Justin Marks. If anything, it was more so for Daniel Suarez. The Mexican-born driver was on the worst run of his Cup Series career as he failed to win even once last year. This time around, he has got the job done and his future seems to have been secured as a result.

There was a lot of speculation last year about the driver of the #99 losing his seat if he did not come up with the goods this time around. With his epic victory at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Daniel Suarez seems to have gotten once again into the good books of Justin Marks, who insisted that he never envisioned a team without the former Xfinity Series champion.
“On the hot seat? He just didn’t have the year that he wanted last year. But we know that he can get it done, and he’s a guy that can get it done. I don’t envision necessarily a situation where Daniel is not a driver for Trackhouse Racing. There’s a lot of things going on behind the scenes, and this is why we made a change at crew chief. This is why we made a change with some of the people around him and the processes is to put him in a position where he can win because Trackhouse is a winning company,” the 42-year-old said as per motorsport.com.

He may be writing off the speculations now, but these stories in motorsport don’t emanate out of nowhere. There is always a bit of truth to what is being circulated, and in all probability, Daniel Suarez’s performance on Sunday did bail him out of some sort of situation. Do you believe that to be the case? Let us know your thoughts.
