With just 10 races to go till NASCAR crowns its 2023 Cup Series champion, the rush of blood through the veins of each playoff driver out there is insane. The desperation is high and so are the chances of making mistakes. But over the next ten weeks, it is a battle of strategies. You have to keep your head cool and survive till the Championship 4 and then bring out your A-game and win the most coveted race.

While Hendrick Motorsports is one of the most high-valued teams in NASCAR, their position in the driver’s championship is not that great. With their star drivers Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott out of the grid, Rick Hendrick is perhaps placing all his hopes on Kyle Larson and William Byron. But the ball seems to be more in the court of the Fords than the Chevrolets. And more so, as Brad Keselowski and his team have made a sudden resurgence since Richmond.

Consistency is the key to success; Brad Keselowski’s main mantra

Compared to a big-shot Cup team like Hendrick Motorsports, RFK Racing has probably not been up there in the popularity list until now. After Chris Buescher’s back-to-back wins at Richmond and Michigan and the driver-boss duo finishing 1-2 at Daytona, tables have turned significantly. RFK Racing is a formidable name when it comes to playoff contention. However, the RFK Racing boss was seen napping like a baby during a playoff media day. Must be a sight worth witnessing, don’t you think?

In an interview, a reporter asked Brad if there had been any changes in his routine. Brad Keselowski denied. He referred to his napping day at Charlotte and said, “No. Pretty much business as usual. I guess with the exception of our media day down in Charlotte that would be the biggest change in my schedule is I went somewhere where civilization exists. That was about it.”

He explained that the only strategy they had all along was to go to each race track and go for the win. Although it is true that they can’t win every race, Brad Keselowski’s keen eyes never miss the bigger picture. He said, “Just the way I’ve looked at this for my entire career is all the point stuff, all of that comes with winning races and running well and trying to win races, understanding that you can’t take excessive risks in times where it may not be intelligent to do so. But, no, we’re doing the same things.”

“We’re working off of the same baselines that we’ve been able to establish this season at a lot of different styles of race tracks. It hasn’t really put too much of a curveball in our trajectory for what we’ve been looking at for the week,” added the RFK boss, flaunting the consistency in his team.

Consistency is the only thing lacking in Hendrick Motorsports lately

It is not a new story about how Chase Elliott missed 7 races; 6 to his snowboarding injury and 1 to a penalty for wrecking Denny Hamlin. The 2020 Cup Series Champion missed the playoffs for the first time in his career with Rick Hendrick. Similarly for Alex Bowman, the playoff ticket expired as he remained short of a victory after having missed several races due to a Sprint car accident earlier this year.

Last year, Hendrick Motorsports President and General Manager, Jeff Andrews said, “We want to continue to advance our race teams and our performance, I think as we saw at the start of 2022 there were some teams that came out of the box and were strong. We were one of those teams.”

However, when Chase Elliott dropped down the favorite list of many NASCAR insiders, Andrews’ hopes seemed to get bleaker than ever. As a team owner, Rick Hendrick’s main goal was to get all his cars into the playoff rumble. However, both Bowman and Elliott remained winless this year and failed to join their teammates Kyle Larson and William Byron.

But the #9 Chevrolet getting into the owner’s championship is perhaps a balm to the wound for Mr. H. All that Mr. H can expect now is that Chase Elliott will get him his team’s 300th win. At least, that could be some sort of rebound for the 2020 Cup Series champion.
