Tony Stewart’s wife Leah Pruett began her drag racing career at the age of 8. She bested a whopping 37 Jr. Dragsters and two Division 7 championships before 2001. A 10-time winner of the National Hot Rod Association event, the NHRA Top Fuel Dragster is nothing short of an icon. As she embarks on the 27th year of her drag racing career, Pruett is determined to prevail.

Perhaps it was their shared passion for racing that led Pruett and NASCAR icon Tony Stewart to get married. The power couple began working together in 2021. But all good things must come to an end.

Leah will be competing at the NHRA Mile High Nationals for her final time at Bandimere Speedway in Colorado. Unlike her, she this time took to social media to share a tradition that she has been practicing every season.

Dragster Leah Preutt hopes to continue her Denver tradition

Bandimere Speedway, also known as Thunder Mountain in NHRA terms, will be hosting its 65th and final season in 2023. This makes it a very important and emotional race for Leah. Bandimere has been part of Leah’s life ever since she was 8 and has been racing here religiously ever since. However, the terrain in Denver is quite difficult but Leah’s been training hard enough by taking a run to the top of the Thunder Mountain.

What began as mere training transformed into a beloved tradition that she has maintained over the years. An Instagram story posted by Tony Stewart’s wife showed her at the top of the mountain for one final time.

Leah Preutt wrote: “Well guys, here it is. There it is, the sunset from top of the hill that i would run almost every single day of running the Dodge Mopar Motors Nationals at Bandimere Speewday. Today is Tuesday. Hopefully I’lll run it everyday and be at the top of the mountain on Sunday. And I’m definitely going to miss every single thing about racing in this beautiful city,” Her Dodge Direct Connection dragster is currently third with respect to point standings.

In a recent Instagram Reel posted by Pruett, fans heard her say how emotionally overwhelming this final race at Bandimere would be for her. “……we are getting ready to go to my favourite place, possibly in the whole world but for sure my favourite track Bandimere Speedway. For me it’s hard to just ball this up. All the emotions, except I know when I go to Bandimere that I’m greeted by the most incredible Mopar Nation grandstands in the side of the mountains.” Fans can only hope that her emotional entanglement with the track spurs her to win again this season.

It’s uncontroversial to say that Pruett gets a homely feeling at Thunder Mountain, given that she grew up racing here. Sunday will certainly be a bittersweet experience for her. Her impeccable performance at Norwalk earlier this year has kept fans optimistic about Sunday’s race. Denver saw her victorious in last season’s race. The anticipation of watching how she performs in Bandimere’s final year is palpable.
