Yes, Ross Chastain, the man, the myth, the legend, seen by some as the new Dale Earnhardt while to some, he isn’t even who he could’ve been, has once again found his way onto the top of the headlines in NASCAR with his on-track ‘activities.’ This time around, the stage was Darlington, and his victim was Kyle Larson.

Although this time, the reaction was far more sour towards the #1 driver. Perhaps the days of him wrecking other drivers and folks calling it a display of ‘good old racing’ are over? Or maybe people are running out of patience with him?

Well, it remains to be seen what comes of ‘the people’, but Rick Hendrick certainly has run out of patience with Chastain as his post-race interview proved.

Rick Hendrick claimed Ross Chastain may find it difficult to win a championship

During a post-race interview at Darlington, Mr. H made his thoughts and stance on Ross Chastain as clear as his team’s dominance this season. “I don’t care if he’s driving a Chevrolet if he wrecks our cars. I don’t care, and I told Chevrolet that,” Hendrick said. “If you wreck us, you’re going to get it back. If you don’t do it, they’ll run all over you.”

“He’s going to make a lot of enemies, and it’s hard to win a championship when you got a lot of paybacks out there.”

Of course, the ‘get it back’ part could mean a lot of things, and one thing in particular, everyone is aware of those things and ‘that thing’. But as for Hendrick’s ‘championship’ comment on Chastain, it means one thing which Aric Almirola recently described.

In a recent appearance on FOX Sport’s NASCAR Race Hub, Aric Almirola opened up on how Trackhouse Racing are now having to play defense with their partners because of Chastain.

“When you start taking Chevrolet teammates consistently out of the races .. that starts to create a lot of turmoil inside that Chevrolet camp,” the Stewart Haas Racing driver said. “When you talk about the championship, Rick Hendrick is exactly right.”

“When you look at the championships Jimmie Johnson has won, I think back to the championships Tony Stewart won back when he had to drive through the field. And Tony Stewart had so many friends in the field that they would pull over and let him go chase Carl Edwards down. That makes a big difference.”

Almirola also co-related Chastain’s growing list of enemies on the track to his inability to go all the way to win the races, given his talent and his more than capable racecars.

“I think a large part of that is because of his aggressive nature and the fact that he doesn’t have a lot of guys that cut him a lot of slack on the racetrack,” he claimed.
