Unlike the popular saying, the first time turned out to be a charm for the Kiwi Supercar champion, Shane Van Gisbergen. The race on the streets of Chicago turned out to be a cakewalk for the 3x V8 Supercar champion as he went on to clinch his maiden title in NASCAR’s highest format, the Cup Series.
Moreover, various factors like the street course and the rain-dampened race played a favorable role in the victory of the driver, who was already acclimatized to such conditions and could capitalize on such a situation. However, can the same be asserted for the upcoming race at the tracks of the Brickyard?
While the NASCAR enthusiast awaits with bated breath to witness, the impeccable performance of SVG on the road course, Darian Grubb, on the contrary, seems to have a different school of thought. He revealed this in the latest episode of MRN Crew Call.

The former crew chief of Tony Stewart reveals the uncertainty that looms over SVG in Indianapolis
Shane Van Gisbergen’s victory in the inaugural race was something that was surely unforeseen but not unprecedented. After clinching his maiden victory in his debut appearance, the Kiwi enshrined himself in the pages of the history of NASCAR, as he became the only winner after Johnny Rutherford to win in his debut race. SVG’s rare feat seemed to have left a mark in the tracks of NASCAR and kept the enthusiasts wanting more.
Owing to this fact, Van Gisbergen is set to make his second appearance in Indianapolis under the same team under which he had earned the victory; Project 91. However, the quandary that seems to bug the minds of NASCAR enthusiasts is whether SVG will be able to repeat the Chicago feat. Furthermore, the former crew chief Darian Grubb, who was once fired by Tony Stewart, even after winning the championship, seems to be skeptical of SVG winning.
This was apparent in the latest episode of MRN Crew Call, where the host Todd Gordon asserted, “You got to win at Chicago, I didn’t think there was a chance to win you could win there, I was wrong. Bring somebody brand new, obviously, the Supercar stuff is very similar in racing style to what we have here at Cup. You are taking over Indy now what are your expectations now and what is the takeaway from just interacting with Shane.”
To this, Grubb asserted, “I think it’s much the same. We expect to go up there and be fast and competitive but it all depends on the weekend goes. It’s truly gonna be a complete scenario because this is a track that all the other Cup teams experienced on. They have a notebook from last year, they know what to expect.”
“It’s going to be different for him as far as that goes and you have to do double-fire restarts and all the other things that come along with it. It will be different, it will be fun and easy but he is also an extremely talented and does it for a living. And I think he is gonna be pretty solid either way. Just make sure that we qualify good and putting on a best job,” Grubb added.
The Indianapolis race seems to fan rivalry as Shane Van Gisbergen is set to face his fellow driver

Although the odds seem to be in favor of SVG among all the non-NASCAR drivers, it seems there seems to be a caveat that may play against SVG in Indianapolis, and it is none other than his fellow competitor Kostecki.
Even the Truck Series driver seems to echo the same fact and expressed in the latest episode of Door Bumper Clear. He exclaimed, “I am curious how he performs because there’s a race within the race. Because he is racing Brodie Kostecki too, he’s coming over. They race each other all the time. It seems like Brodie wins a lot. His name is obviously circling around.”
