It is time to stretch out and shed the festive frolicking, as the racing season gradually heralds in, beginning with the Chili Bowl Nationals. One of the greatest midget racing series on American soil is set to hit the track of the SageNet Centre from the 8th of January. However, in this grand contention for the Golden Driller award, one of the drivers who chose to stay out of the dirt track is none other than Kyle Larson

The 2024 NASCAR season is assuredly going to be a fairytale season for the Hendrick Motorsports speedster Kyle Larson. The 2021 Cup Series champion is set to take a leap of faith and experience the double-headed monster of the Coca-Cola 600 and Indy 500. However, amidst the busy schedule of racing in the Crown Jewel races, for Larson, it has always been midget racing that has occupied a hallowed position. Due to Larson’s dexterity as a driver, Tony Stewart seems to be in awe of the driver, as he recently divulged his own experiences from his 2002 championship season.

In the world of motorsports, very few drivers have been able to reach the position that Tony Stewart has climbed. Whether it was USAC IndyCar or NASCAR, the Hall of Famer has nothing less than a ‘Jack of all Trades’, with endless feathers to adorn his hat. Although the former driver has achieved every possible title in the world of stock car racing, it is apparent that one such driver that has struck a chord with Stewart is none other than ‘Yung Money’ Kyle Larson. 

The HMS driver, although a Cup Series champion, has found his contentment in the world of midget racing. Apart from his full-time participation in NASCAR’s elite series, Larson has always accommodated time for strapping in his midget car. Acknowledging the #5 driver’s multifaceted personality, Tony Stewart, in a recent interview, acknowledged the #5 driver’s abilities as he spoke about his maiden championship-winning year. “Yeah, I don’t think, when we went to Tulsa at the beginning of the season, that 2002 was going to end up as big as it did,” he said.

“But obviously to start off the year with the biggest midget race of the year and then to finish the season at the end of the year with a NASCAR championship. I don’t know how you ask for any better. The only way to answer that is to ask somebody like Kyle Larson, who’s doing it in this era now. This was an event that really set the tone for the season,” Stewart concluded.

Although numerous NASCAR drivers have tried their hands at the coveted Chili Bowl Nationals, only a handful of Cup drivers have found success in it. Among these, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, and Tony Stewart’s names shine the brightest. However, how long will Kyle Larson be able to match Tony Stewart’s prowess? Well, as per a recent interview, Kyle Larson revealed how he might turn his retirement plans into reality sooner than one would assume.

Speaking of Kyle Larson’s unending love saga for sprint car racing, the driver had teased his fans with news of his early retirement from NASCAR to focus on his sprint car racing career. This news came to light during his interview with Kenny Wallace.

When asked about his stance on drivers opting for early retirements from NASCAR’s top division, the #5 Chevrolet driver stated, I don’t, like sitting here right now, I don’t see myself going to 40. But that’s not me retiring from racing […] A lot of these drivers too, I don’t think they meant to be done at 42. I think they just got pushed out of the sport a little bit with young drivers coming up, who could be paid a lot less than what they’re making, stuff like that.”

“But then, for me, there’s a lot of stuff I want to accomplish while I’m still in my prime. I’m 31 right now, I’m going into my 11th season in the Cup Series. I’ve already been in it for a while. So, in my eyes if I can race another seven or eight years, I can earn a lot of money, I can set myself up really well and I can go still be in my prime, hopefully, and go compete for a premier dirt series championship.”

Nevertheless, with the 2024 Cup Series season, it is to be seen what the season awaits for the HMS driver. Whether the driver is able to conquer the double-headed monster and add another rare feather to his name or will fall flat on his face, only time will tell.
