Apart from his personal winnings, the ‘Smoke’ is also a successful owner of Stewart-Haas Racing and an NHRA team.  Nevertheless, in his racing career, he has come across a spectrum of successful drivers.

Whether it was Kevin Harvick in his Cup Series team or Matt Hagan in the Funny Car Series, Tony Stewart has created a huge network of motor racing acquaintances. Moreover, his racing teams have been breeding grounds for several successful drivers. Owing to this it seems that one of Tony Stewart’s drivers has added another coveted feather to his name.

With the capping off the 2023 Cup Series season and bidding farewell to Kevin Harvick, the owner of Stewart-Haas Racing has hardly sighed a breath of respite. Stewart, apart from juggling the duties in SHR was also responsible for his NHRA team, where his wife Leah Pruett is a team member. The Cup Series season turned out to be dismal for Stewart and his team. But one relief came from Matt Hagan winning the championship in the Funny Car Series.

However, there is another celebratory cause for Stewart as his sprint car driver Donny Schatz was recently inducted into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame. Schatz has been one of the legendary dirt racers in American motorsports. He currently competes in the World of Outlaws, driving the #15 Ford for Tony Stewart Racing.

Speaking to the media about the prestigious achievement, Schatz expressed, “When I started racing sprint cars, this was a family thing. My father was a big part of this, my mother was a big part of this, everything that they have done, the people that we have met, the friendships that we have made, that makes it to me what’s been most special. When you roll in the gate at your very first world of outlaws race in front of your hometown crowd, I am telling you it’s nerve-wracking.

“As a driver, you are there to compete but yet you are like giving back to the fans and showing them your appreciation is doing your best and having your best and brightest moments right then and there. My walking through the River City, when I walk in the gate of River Valley Speedway, and all the places where I grew up, I still get that lump in my throat. Really satisfying as a driver to be able to go and race in front of those hometown crowd and escalate yourself, bring yourself to the next level. It doesn’t matter what the reason but when you are running in those home tracks it’s for them.”
