Tony Stewart afraid of Leah Pruett's NHRA skills—Is he right to be worried?

Tony Stewart recently switched lanes and decided to move to drag racing. That did not come without reason, as he is currently substituting for his wife, Leah Pruett. His wife is a full-time NHRA racer, and although she didn’t want to let go of the steering wheel, it was probably for the best considering she’s 7 months pregnant.

As a good husband would, Tony Stewart decided to stand in for her for races, while Leah focused on herself and the pregnancy. But according to Tony Stewart, his wife would love to get back to racing as soon as she can. Although getting back to racing after a break is unheard of, she has made a recent suggestion that has left the 53-year-old in a fix.

In the latest episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Tony Stewart discusses racing, along with everything possible to fit into the 3-hour long podcast, but the show did not end before they spoke about his wife. Pat McAfee was doubtful if the couple had gotten married since he last met Tony, but once the air was cleared, they could move on to discussing the NHRA.

Stewart told McAfee the real reason he moved away from NASCAR to drag racing while mentioning how it is a bad idea for his pregnant wife to drive a car that goes from 0-300 mph in a matter of seconds. When the topic of Leah making it back into racing came up, Stewart said, “She has this really bad idea that she wants us to build a second-top fuel team.”

The intention behind Leah’s proposal was that she could race against her husband once she was back behind the wheel. It’s clear exactly how much Tony Stewart does not like the idea as he continued, It’s a terrible idea on paper, and it does not make sense because if you beat your wife, you get stuck on the couch for eternity.”

The flip side to this would be if he loses to his wife, he believes that he will “have to look at yourself [himself] in the mirror twice a day and go, ‘I got my a– kicked by my wife,'” But that’s not all, as people will get the news and his friends will say, “‘You got your a– kicked by your wife.” Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Tony Stewart’s pride for his wife, Leah Pruett, goes beyond her on-track accomplishments. After dedicating 27 years to NHRA racing and achieving a career-high in the Top Fuel standings last year, Leah stepped away from her lifelong passion to start a family with Stewart. It wasn’t an easy decision; racing had been a core part of her identity since she was eight years old.

The early days of this transition were tough, especially during the season opener at Gainesville. Stewart knew the change would be hard, not just because of her passion for racing, but also because of the added challenge of managing her Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis while trying to conceive.

Seeing her step away from racing, deal with her health issues, and work towards starting a family has changed how he looks at things. Even though she has every reason to be frustrated, Leah handles everything with grace, showing that her strength goes beyond just racing.

As Stewart says, “Female race car drivers are way tougher than all of us men.” Leah’s journey shows that true champions shine, even when they’re not on the track. With this, we hope the best for them and cannot wait to see little Stewart say hello to the world. Are you as excited to see the power couple baby as us? Let us know in the comments below.
