As Jimmie Johnson retired from NASCAR, many of his colleagues, both past and present, shared some interesting stories about one of the greatest NASCAR drivers. One of them was another NASCAR great, Tony Stewart, who shares a great camaraderie with Johnson.
Stewart revealed an incident involving Johnson, which he remembers quite vividly. It started off as a bit of a tense moment and ended up in laughter for everyone involved.
Some years ago, Stewart was hosting an event that Jimmie Johnson was supposed to be part of. Stewart was up on stage, talking to the president of a fan club. They were in the presence of many other guests and his phone started to ring.

How Tony Stewart helped Jimmie Johnson get out of the elevator
Stewart still had a microphone connected to himself as he spoke to Johnson. The Hendrick Motorsports star told Stewart that he was stuck in the elevator and did not know how to get out. Stewart asked him to make sure the door was closed, in the first place.
Johnson replied saying he would even break the door if needed. “He goes, ‘If I have to break this door down to get out, I’ll do it.’ He goes, ‘But Lowe’s will pay to fix it.’,” Stewart explained.
Stewart then assured Johnson that he would not need to break the door down. He just had to make sure the inside door of the elevator was shut so that the elevator would move and let him get to the floor.

The guests could not stop laughing
While Stewart helped Johnson get out of the elevator, he said that all the guests in attendance heard the entire conversation. They could not stop laughing as they listened.
“He gets it all shut up and figures out that’s exactly what it was. And he got out of the elevator. And the whole fan club picnic was dying laughing in the background listening to this conversation,” Stewart added.
