The SRX has unloaded its grand fanbase to Michigan, where the Berlin oval witnessed packed stands for the fourth race of the season. The 2023 campaign in the first three races was nothing short of tremendous, but the last race at Virginia became a hot topic of conversation due to the crash involving Paul Tracy and Ken Schrader and the suspension in particular.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time both veterans collided, as a similar incident occurred at the season opener in Standford. In response to the recent incident, the SRX’s officiating team led by Tony Stewart made the tough decision to suspend Paul Tracy for the Berlin race and the rest of the season. This announcement sparked controversy, and Tony Stewart took it upon himself to explain the reasoning behind the suspension, attempting to provide clarity from last week’s events.

Safety has remained the utmost concern in motorsports over the years, and any deliberate attempt to create wrecks is met with swift action from the governing body, often resulting in suspensions or hefty penalties. This approach is crucial to uphold the integrity and fairness of the sport.

Last year, Tony Stewart emphasized the importance of clean driving, making it clear that recklessness will not be tolerated. However, following the recent SRX verdict, Tony Stewart opened up about his true feelings after the suspension of the Canadian driver.

In an interview with Frontstretch at Berlin, while discussing the backup car at SRX, Stewart spontaneously expressed, “I wish more than anybody that Paul Tracy would running with us tonight because Paul is an excellent race car driver.”

The controversy surrounding Tracy’s absence led to some speculating that the Berlin race might lack aggressive racing. However, Tony Stewart clarified the matter, assuring that the racetrack itself played a role in minimizing car damage.

He continued, “It didn’t feel the same not having him [Paul] here and I think the race track made the carnage side of it little easier than just everybody’s gonna say well without Paul there and tear anything up I think this race track lended itself to being easier on the cars

Reflecting on the week’s events, Stewart Haas Racing Owner concluded, It was a rough week for our series.”

Tony Stewart has been consistently vocal about his stance on rough driving, firmly asserting that such behavior is entirely unacceptable. Recently, SRX CEO Don Hawk, shed light on the decision to suspend a driver.

In an interview with Jerry Jordan, Hawk explained the rationale behind their decision-making process, emphasizing their desire for fun and intense racing. However, he also acknowledged the need to draw a line when necessary, stating, “We don’t wanna be police, we wanna have fun, we want to have hard racing, but at certain point you have to say, stop. Enough is enough”

According to Hawk, that breaking point was reached during the incident involving Paul Tracy last week. The decision to suspend Tracy was based on a careful examination of videos and evidence, leading to a conclusion that action needed to be taken.

“It’s something needed to be done and still believe it was the right decision and the right call,” Hawk concluded.

By drawing a clear boundary against rough driving, SRX aims to foster an environment of competitive racing while maintaining the utmost respect for fair play and safety on the track
