After receiving a ton of backlash from fans, fellow drivers, and the Series owner Tony Stewart himself, the ‘wreck-magnet’ of the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX), will not be making a return to the series for the remainder of the 2023 season. Don Hawk, the CEO of SRX and a close associate of the SHR Team owner Tony Stewart, gave confirmation on his exit.
The suspension came after a controversial incident at Pulaski County Motorsports Park, where an aggressive maneuver resulted in a multi-car accident. Despite this tough call, Hawk emphasized that there was no animosity between the driver and the series officials, stating that they had an amicable conversation about the decision.

The news of Paul Tracy’s suspension did not come as a surprise. During a recent event at Pulaski County Motorsports Park, his on-track antics reached a tipping point. The incident involved Tracy making contact with Josef Newgarden, the reigning Indianapolis 500 winner, causing a major wreck. Following the backlash after the race, SRX CEO Don Hawk has confirmed Tracy’s suspension and made it clear that his return to the series is ruled out for the rest of the season.
The news of Tracy’s suspension first broke when the official announcement came through the Instagram page of SRX.
Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) has announced an immediate suspension of Driver Paul Tracy in relation to yesterday’s on-track incident at Pulaski County Motorsports Park. “We take issues regarding driver safety extremely seriously at SRX,” said SRX Chief Executive Officer, Don Hawk. “This is not a decision we take lightly. It is our responsibility to ensure that we foster a competitive, and most importantly, a safe racing environment. I have been in contact with Paul directly and we appreciate his cooperation on this matter.”

According to Speed Sport, when asked when is Tracy likely to return to SRX, Hawk said, “It won’t be this year.”
Matt Weaver took to Twitter to inform the community that Don Hawk has confirmed Tracy will not be returning this season. He wants local talents to fill in Tracy’s seat.
“Paul Tracy will not return to SRX this season. Don Hawk says he’s been in communication with PT and there’s no bad blood but a decision was just made after rewatching footage. Like Johnny Benson at Berlin, Hawk is aiming for something of a local legend for each remaining race.”

Amidst all the chaos, Stock car racer and YouTube personality Landon Huffman has been vocal about the importance of bringing local talent in a series like SRX. And he’ll finally get to see some of those.

Days before Tracy’s suspension, Huffman expressed his disappointment over the absence of weekly track ringers, emphasizing the thrill of seeing local talents compete against established racing stars. “One change in SRX that I am extremely disappointed in is the lack of a weekly track ringer every race. I loved watching the local guy go at it against the big names. It was very reminiscent of old school match races at local tracks that pitted NASCAR stars against weekly heroes.”

Hawk seems to have taken note of Huffman’s suggestions. Because he is now looking to incorporate local legends in each of the remaining races for the 2023 season. And this, unsurprisingly, is a delight for the fans. They have been showing their support with lots of encouraging comments. Here are a few of them.
“What a shame.. could’ve had some great local legends at the previous tracks and a lot less torn up race cars.”
“He’s half the reason I stopped watching. This makes the product on track way better.”
“💯 on this one, giving the local ace an opportunity to showcase his skills against big names was fun. I love those “this is your shot” moments in motorsports”
“There are local track champions all over who are terrific racers. Would love to see Johnny Benson racing next week when #SRX comes to Berlin Raceway here in Michigan.”
