NASCAR is a sport where multiple factors are responsible to lead a team to the checkered flag. Apart from drivers and Crew chiefs, manufacturers, sponsors, and pit crew play a vital role as to create a strong team. Speaking of manufacturers, there has been one that has been the talk of the town this season and it is Ford.
Ford has been in NASCAR since 1955 and has seen a lot of success, most recently with Joey Logano’s championship last year. But this year Ford’s performance, to say the very least, is not what is expected from them. Notably, prominent names of NASCAR such as Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, and Joey Logano drive these Ford Mustangs, but all of them struggled through the series.
Kevin Harvick’s #4 Mustang is currently leading within those groups of Ford cars with 601 points. Though the cars have occasionally shone, none of them are at the top of the standings. In the midst of confusion surrounding the lack of performance, Kevin Harvick’s Crew Chief revealed what may be the reason for this slump.

Rodney Childers pointed out the real problem they faced, calling it their ‘worst’ performance
During the MRN Crew Call Podcast, Tony Stewart’s veteran crew chief Rodney Childers was asked about the challenges Ford has been facing. And the SHR employee let it all out.
He started, “I mean that part you know going into this year was a bit disappointing. I thought we all kind of felt like we’re gonna be better you know with some of the updates. We all ended up being worst you know than we were in last year, so that part has been a struggle. You have to be honest with what you have it. We have not found any gains at all.”
He continued with reversing their adjustments and approaches by saying, “I don’t know anything from aero side we gain since we raced(…) you know that has almost taken the pressure off of that side and just worrying about setups every week and trying to get the most amount of grip we can get and doing everything all right. Get all the details right and go out there and make sure we have the right shocks and springs and heights and maximize that the best we can.”
“But you know like we said you know everybody’s working really hard but lack of effort you know these cars are really hard to find right you kinda maxed out what you got. So we’re trying it’s not my kinda effort like I said we’re getting there.”
While Kevin had a chance to win the race at Pocono, he revealed the reason why they have to settle at P4.

The Stewart Haas Racing driver currently holds the 8th position due to a lack of wins. He has finished six times in the top 5s but it is not enough as Harvick is looking for a win. After the last restart at Pocono, the #4 got caught up behind the #5 and #11. While Kevin skillfully escaped the accident, he couldn’t find a way to jump ahead of P4.
After the race, Harvick told NBC, “I would have rather won, but I think we just have to keep ourselves in the mix, keep doing what we’re doing and you just never know how these things are gonna play out.”
“We needed the front in clean air and we never really got that. Our car just struggled in traffic on that first lap of the restarts to get going with the front tires, but it was a strange race. I didn’t ever think that that strategy would play out like it did, running where we were and then having it cycle all through” he concluded.
