Replying to this, Stewart told Pat McAfee, “I don’t know, I learned I was too lazy to work at a real job at a young age. So I figured I had to be good at something.” This got a great laugh from the whole room.

But this led McAfee to enquire if Stewart was more courageous than any average Joe. To this, he answered, “I don’t know. I honestly don’t have a good answer for that.”

“I did my deal and I didn’t worry about what everybody else said. We just did it our way. We stuck to our programme. Even when we won, we always try to figure out how can we have done it better.”

Following his IndyCar career, Stewart joined the NASCAR Cup Series in 1999. Right off the bat, he was in a top team with Joe Gibbs Racing and finished 4th in the championship in his debut season. Later on, in 2002, Stewart would finally clinch his maiden NASCAR Cup Series championship. Along the way, he grabbed three wins that year, adding to a total of 15 visits to Victory Lane.

Since then, he had been going from strength to strength. He won two more Cup Series titles in 2005 and in 2011. The driver continued racing, all the way up till his retirement at the end of the 2016 season. Even after that, he has continued his association with NASCAR, through the Stewart-Haas Racing team.
