One of the most bizarre yet completely practical things about NASCAR is what happens if, during a race, nature calls. But while we’ve come to learn the answer, drivers are still asked this question because it’s not the answer, but how they choose to answer and what details they add. More recently, it was the turn of Tony Stewart to face the question.
The Stewart Haas Racing driver was asked whether drivers urinate during a race in an interview on The Dan LeBatard Show.

Smoke answered by going over the specifics of his experience in IndyCar, those who enjoy asking this question, and why he feels one must do what’s gotta be done.

Tony Stewart would rather urinate in his suit than end up in a hospital
Stewart described how the racecars in IndyCar have such a chassis that the center section of it has the motor attached to it. Stewart also touched on the “really thin” seats that form fit the body of the driver.
All of this, he claimed, creates “a harmonic vibration” which makes the driver feel like they “need to urinate.”
“The women always love listening to this question, because of like what happens if you have to go to the bathroom? In that scenario, the doctors will tell you, you’re best is to just go in your suit,” Stewart continued with his response. “That’s what you have to do…imagine if you have a full bladder and you crash, you could rupture your bladder in an accident.”
“So as uncomfortable as that sounds and doesn’t sound fun, I’d rather mess my uniform up for the day than have to go to the ER.”

Dale Jr, Chase Elliott, and Bubba Wallace have all responded to this question in the past
In an interview earlier this year, Hendrick Motorsports ace, Chase Elliott was asked the same question as Stewart. “Hey, I am very proud, to this juncture of my career, I have not had to. I have not had to make that happen,” he said.

Similarly, Bubba Wallace too was asked by Kevin Hart a few years ago if drivers have “s**t bag” in their cars, to which the 23XI Racing driver simply said, “We just go.”
“Drivers just go,” he emphasized.

But perhaps the most simple answer came from Dale Earnhardt Jr, as the Hall of Famer once told Fox Sports, “If you can hold it, you hold it. If you can’t hold it, you go.”
