Earlier this year at the Road America Xfinity Series race, Noah Gragson unwittingly painted himself as a villain. This was because he was battling with Sage Karam and he intentionally triggered a massive wreck.

Fortunately, both drivers have since calmed down and talked things out to clear the air.

Recently, Karam spoke about the wreck and what he spoke to Gragson about. “I said listen dude, there’s no one here, more than me, that knows like freak accidents in racing,” he said.

“The reason why I’m so p***ed about what happened was because I’ve been a part of freak accidents. To cause an accident on purpose, that could result in something like that is just baffling to me.”

What was Sage Karam referring to in his talk with Noah Gragson?

The 27-year-old was talking about a fatal incident in 2015 that involved himself and ex-F1 driver, Justin Wilson. As it happened, Karam was leading the race when he hit a bump and spun, crashing into the outside wall at Pocono.

While he did so, there were bits and pieces of debris flying around the track. One fairly large piece of bodywork happened to strike Wilson on the helmet as he was passing Karam’s wreck.

That seemingly knocked the 37-year-old unconscious and he went straight into the inside wall.

In the aftermath of the accident, Wilson was comatose with a serious head injury and in critical condition. Tragically, Wilson passed away a day later, becoming the latest IndyCar fatality since Dan Wheldon in 2011.
