The Verizon 200 at the Brickyard had barely started when fireworks set off on the track. The much-awaited road course race continued to deliver quality racing, and this time the one leading the charge was two-time champion Joey Logano. Just 6 laps into the race, the Team Penske driver had a hand behind two wrecks as the close-quarter action hooked the spectators from the very beginning.

To say that the spectators and viewers were surprised by this sequence of events involving Logano would be an understatement. Right after the incidents, there were calls to him to limit his destructive tendencies on the track to a considerable extent. While he might not have intended to bump into his victims, Logano’s actions have been ridiculed by most of the fandom.

The challenges of the IMS road course came under the lights yet again as Logano bumped into Kaulig Racing driver Justin Haley’s right front and door. Haley lost control of his car after the bump, went into the grass, and lost traction. The consequences of the crash were disastrous as Haley was sent spinning into the tire barriers and suffered heavy damage to the car as well. He limped off in the #31 immediately to the pit road to get his vehicle fixed before the Damaged Vehicle Policy came into play.

On the sixth lap of the race, Logano found himself in another crash, and this time it was him spinning onto the track after a minor hit to the rear of teammate Ryan Blaney. Blaney didn’t take much of a hit as he kept going, but it saw Logano make a blunder by locking up the brakes, which ended up stalling him. Two such incidents in the space of five laps frustrated the fans, who were quick to lash out at the 33-year-old for sabotaging the races of others so early on in the race.

Fortunately, Haley got his car cleared and resumed his race. An accident this dangerous in the race’s second lap only goes on to show the intense pressure and tiny room for error. The debutant in 23XI Racing’s #67 Toyota, Kamui Kobayashi, also spun off the track just before Haley’s incident. The two incidents on lap 2 were enough for the viewers to have a fair idea of what to expect from the race.

The fandom did not take a liking to these incidents. Tweets came pouring in as enthusiastic followers of the sport voiced their displeasure over Logano’s actions that might have ended Haley’s race or worse if not for the tire barriers.

One of the fans took a sarcastic jab at Logano, posting:

A few fans expressed concerns for other drivers’ safety, writing, “we really gotta keep joey logano away from this place
