Managing a grueling 36-race schedule every year is no mean feat. However, being the beacon of progress as the only full-time Black driver in the NASCAR Cup Series simply adds to the pressure. Bubba Wallace, while driving the No. 23 Toyota Camry for Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing team, has endured a lot. From discovering a noose in his garage to coping with his best friend’s championship, he has faced stuff.

However, having his dearest friend by his side every single day makes things a little bit easier. Bubba Wallace and Amanda Carter have been together since 2015 – they got engaged in 2021 and finally tied the knot during 2022 New Year’s Eve. Now as they step into their new roles as parents, Wallace admits that his struggles are getting easier.

Well, the overall improvement was visible this year. Compared to the 10 top-tens and 5 top-fives he accrued in 2023, Bubba Wallace took a step forward this season. The No. 23 driver clinched 14 top-tens and 6 top-fives and came within a hair’s breadth of the playoffs. However, his struggles were not entirely gone. After Wallace door-slammed Bowman’s car and sent it into the wall he incurred a $50,000 penalty. But the penalty on his mental health was greater, as he admitted he had “been walking around with a persona I’m not proud of.”

Yet now Bubba Wallace is coping well. Back in April this year, he and Amanda Carter announced they were expecting a bundle of joy. And that lovely bundle – named Becks Hayden – was born on September 29th. This new start to a wonderful journey brought smiles to both parents, who rekindled their love for each other. That is what Wallace displayed in a recent Instagram post, penning a heartwarming message for his best friend who helped him cope with his mental struggles. “When the mentals are in check.. it’s surreal how good life can be. Doing it with your best friend is what life is all about. Thriving.”

This is just the newest phase in Wallace and Carter’s blooming relationship. The high school sweethearts have had each other’s backs for a decade now, and have been posting milestones in their journey frequently. Amanda herself admitted to the beautiful bond she shares with Bubba Wallace, back when they were preparing to get married. “We just have such a good bond. I love the time we spend together. We could sit around together all day every day and we don’t get tired of one another. He’s also handsome and charming,” said Amanda.

The validation came from both sides. But this is hardly the first time Bubba Wallace expressed his gratitude to his wife.

Saluting her for her eternal help

Bubba Wallace has got several mentors in his NASCAR career. First and foremost, Michael Jordan‘s influence has been uplifting, as the NBA legend stabilized Wallace’s rollercoaster emotions and carved him into a team leader. Then, after the controversy with Alex Bowman, Kevin Harvick instilled confidence. Harvick told Wallace to show up at Pocono “with a smile on my face and accept it.” Besides these star-studded individuals showing up to support him, Wallace’s strongest pillar was always there.

As his better half, Amanda Carter gave Wallace the supreme support that he needed to cope with his daily mental health struggles. Wallace opened up on how he could have been better as a husband during those times. “I wasn’t the best husband,” he said. “I made her feel like she had to walk on eggshells after bad races. That’s not what it’s about. It’s about going home and getting a fresh reset and being close to the people that are around you. That’s what I’m looking forward to.

After Wallace wallowed in misery following his best friend Ryan Blaney’s 2023 championship, he hailed his wife. She helped him feel better and look forward to a brand new season. “I wake up and my wife’s there. She’s like, ‘How are you feeling today?’ And it’s like, one of those days. We keep each other on our toes. We play video games together. So she’s a massive help. And then the next thing you know, clock strikes 5 o’clock and it’s like, ‘How’s it going?’ and I’m good. It just kind of blows over.” This affection gave him the strength to put up a stronger season in 2024 – which he actually did. “To my peeps out there staring at a blank wall, I’m with you. Tomorrow is another day. Another opportunity. Keep after it.”
