Things really took a turn for the worse in the NASCAR Truck Series last weekend at the Talladega Superspeedway. Fans were witness to a bloody brawl between a seasoned veteran and an up-and-comer and it was not pretty. ThorSport Racing’s Matt Crafton and Rev Racing’s Nick Sanchez came to blows after the two had come together on the track.
After Nick Sanchez and Matt Crafton collided on track, the 47-year-old had to retire from the race while his rival finished in P7 and earned a good amount of points. In video footage after the race, the two were seen screaming profanities at one another as the 22-year-old’s face was covered in blood. People immediately put the blame on the veteran but the hosts of the Door Bumper Clear podcast are not so sure.

After the whole tirade, Matt Crafton tweeted a fairly long thread wherein he defended his actions and explained why he punched Nick Sanchez. According to the 47-year-old, he just wanted to confront the youngster. But it was Sanchez who threatened Crafton, forcing him to clock him square in the face.
Nick Sanchez’s version of things was completely different. After the incident, the 22-year-old spoke to reporters at Talladega. When asked about the whole saga, he said that Matt Crafton had sucker punched him. This has caused a lot of debate among fans and the co-hosts of the Door Bumper Clear podcast were not ones to miss out.
“If you’re gonna fight somebody, you’re gonna confront them, just confront them. If not it’s almost like you’re scared of them,” said TJ Majors after Casey Boat asked him about the incident.
“But Krafton says he didn’t sucker punch him. So who do you believe?” asked Freddie Kraft.
“Krafton said they had a conversation, and in that conversation, Sanchez threatened him,” said Brett Griffin.
“This is just my opinion of it. I think he got sucker punched because I know the guy races the same way as that. You know what I mean. He’s a really smart race car driver,” TJ Majors added.
“So smart people sucker punch people? How many times have they had run-ins this year? A bunch. I mean he’s been in his window. I’ve seen Krafton in his window talking to him,” quipped Brett Griffin.
The whole saga has people divided, much like the three spotters at Door Bumper Clear, and there is no clarity in sight. Both drivers have come out with their versions of how things went down. It is unlikely that either one will admit to lying anytime soon. NASCAR was left with no choice but to fine both of them.

Matt Crafton was fined way more than Nick Sanchez was. This obviously must have been infuriating for the 47-year-old who strongly believes that he was instigated by Sanchez. The decision by NASCAR was to fine Sanchez $5000 and Crafton $25000.

NASCAR’s Vice President Elton Sawyer recently came on SiriusXM Radio and explained why Crafton was fined five times as much as Sanchez.
“We felt like some of the comments that were made by Nick – and we totally understand it was in the heat of the battle, understanding the situation – but we just can’t have those type of comments. So, that’s why he received the fine he received. And then on Matt’s side, we looked at the fact that Matt had had some time to think about the situation,” Sawyer said.
“It wasn’t like both drivers got out on pit road, heat of the battle, they go down and have a discussion with each other. This one spilled over to the garage some time after the event. We felt like it could have been handled different. That’s why Matt’s fine was at $25,000,” he added.

Things will remain on edge between the two drivers for a while now and it will be interesting to see how they react to each other at Homestead. But the saga will surely carry on.
