The Truck Series has been embroiled in controversies and this time in Homestead Miami recorded an open act of rage. An 18-year-old ThorSport Racer gave in to his emotions and ended up wrecking his rival which ultimately sent him to the hospital. During his battle to claim the 17th position with Matt Mills, things seemed to go topsy-turvy and this instigated Conner Jones to wreck into Mills.

The incident at Homestead Miami led to a 2 lap penalization for Jones and while he ended the race at the 25th position, it was seen that the No. 42 Chevrolet driver was accorded with the 34th position. However, despite this incident that could have been detrimental, ThorSport Racing owner Allison Thorson has expressed faith and affirmation in Jones.

The incident dates back to Homestead Miami when Conner Jones, just at lap 75, committed something that is a clear manifestation of a lack of maturity. Entering Turn 3, Jones drove just at the back of Mills and then attempted to perform a bump and run. This contributed to Mills snapping hard to the right and ultimately hitting the wall. The car broke into flames and Mills climbed out from this fiery wreckage. Although he seemed all right, he was later sent to a local hospital for a medical checkup

However, what ignited the controversy more was what Jones uttered on his radio just after the crash. He said, “It’s been all f—-ng year, I’m f—-ng tired of it”. He was accorded with a 2 lap penalty. More concerningly, the ThorSport Racing driver refused to show any kind of remorse. When asked about what he would like to express after the crash, he coldly replied, “Should I? Or do you think I’ll say something stupid?” While Jones ended up apologizing eventually, it seemed as though his lack of control in his emotions was a big reason why this fiasco happened

While fans and critics have been highly skeptical of Jones after this deliberate hit, the team owner for ThorSport Racing, Allison Thorson is not all cold. She has been quite a driving force on the team since her inception and this time too, has expressed faith in the young driver. She said, “I think sometimes the only way to learn and become better is by going through it. I think and the Homestead Miami situation, maybe his emotions and how he was racing got the best of him”. Conner Jones indeed joined the team in 2023. Given his age, adrenaline drives him for the most part. Being on the team with veteran drivers will help him to learn the sport and at the same time develop a calm and cool mindset.
