The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs is an annually divisive phase. Fans and experts both come forth with their stances to back their favorites, but the element of the season is that these choices are ever-changing and dividing. One such thing might have transpired with the star racer Kyle Larson. While the Japanese-born driver leads the current playoff standings and is one of the favorites to land the Cup, not everyone seems to nod their head to this notion.

One such individual is the former Kaulig Racing spotter Brett Griffin, who pounced on Larson’s mistakes on the latest episode of his podcast, Door Bumper Clear. However, where Griffin came forth with some harsh remarks, fan-favorite Larson had his supporters on his side.

Brett Griffin questions Kyle Larson and his talent

The latest episode of the spotters’ convention, Door Bumper Clear, aimed to break down the events at Homestead. The first name that popped up in Griffin’s mind was Kyle Larson. The 31-year-old faced off against Team Penske‘s #12-star driver, Ryan Blaney, who went into the pit lane just ahead of Larson. While Larson attempted to cut the distance between them, he had to slam his brakes soon after as he would have bumped into the #12 and earned a penalty.

Could Kyle Larson have avoided this? Yes, he could have. Had he been more attentive to Blaney’s pit road speed, he would have taken better measures. Brett Griffin appeared to be second this motion as well. Alas! His method of putting forth this perspective did not seem to be soaring well among the audience. Griffin asked, “Who runs out of talent more than Kyle Larson does?

Bubba Wallace’s spotter for the #23 Camry then evaluated the evidence presented and refuted Griffin’s opinion. Running out of talent is the last phrase that could possibly be associated with the 2021 champion. Kraft relays the same thoughts as he replied, “I don’t know. I hate to say he runs out of talent. He just oversteps.

Griffin then reiterated his question,” Did he run out of talent the other day?” Kraft reciprocated to the question and said, “I don’t think he was ever out of control. I think that he panicked and decided, like you said, I’m not going to wreck the #12, because it’s not his fault that I’m barrelling in here.”

“Somebody said I don’t know how accurate is it. Somebody on TV said Blaney overslowed way too much and he was right at 45 miles an hour at start of the pit road entry. He made a conscious decision to wreck himself versus wreck Ryan.”

The comments from Griffin have angered the fanbase and particularly the fans of the # 5 driver. With the fandom taking Griffin’s thoughts with a pinch of salt generally, they latched on to the same again to defend Larson this time.

Griffin is known for his controversial and up-for-debate opinions that he puts into the community every now and then. With Kyle Larson being his latest target, his fans couldn’t stay quiet and thus, took the matter to social media platform Twitter.

One of the fans in the comment section realized the blasphemy that Griffin’s question was putting forth and commented, “Shows much better without know it all Brett who pops in and out the show like he’s some industry rockstar. Like we don’t care you spotted for Elliott Sadler in 2001. Just proposing the question didn’t 5 run out of talent is asinine.”

Another fan with a similar opinion, strengthened the former’s words as he commented, “This show runs out of talent !! Larson gives his all,” while another Twitterati account simply stated that a driver contending for the championship in Phoenix amid such a talented grid can never be interrogated for a lack of talent. He wrote, “Stupid question. One of four racing for a championship.”

Another fan, in particular, drew a comparison between seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and Larson; comparing the frequency of crashes of the drivers in question. “Jimmie sure spun out a lot during his career and he’s a 7-time champion. Just saying.”, he said. Well, going from 1 to 7 will be a big task for Larson but he does have the right tools to do it.
