On the cusp of the season’s final race at Daytona, Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s No. 23 anxiety clouded anticipation regarding his playoff status. This unease led him to decline pre-race pit road interviews, drawing sharp criticism from Kyle Petty, who boldly labeled him “mentally fragile.” This harsh judgment painted a picture in the minds of many, defining Wallace’s emotional state. While that might be the lens through which many view him, a recent heart-to-heart gave Bubba Wallace a chance to set the record straight.
When pressed about his tryst with anxiety, Bubba Wallace candidly reflected, “You have a lot of things good, and then it’s like everything is ripped off underneath you. And it happens. It’s not just me waking up and everything is going right, and then it’s like, yeah! Today sucks! It’s like, no! You have gone through past experiences where you felt like you were on top of the world, and it’s ripped off underneath you! Yes! Experiences that, but the fall may be harder for others than some.”
Today I got to ask @BubbaWallace about “LIVING” with anxiety. It’s personal to me because I have struggled with it for most of my adult life. I honestly appreciated his responses because he nailed it. He is so good at just being honest and raw. I love it #NASCAR pic.twitter.com/a5pAmZd9HB

Continuing with raw honesty, he added, “And so, you know that it’ll hurt. Every person that I meet that I end up vibing with, I am telling you, I am not trying to be pessimistic; I am just being real. The goods going to come, doing in. So, I try not to live too high. Because it s*cks when I fall.”
