The hazards of racing a car around an oval track, sandwiched between 30–40 other highly competitive drivers at speeds upwards of 200mph, are well documented and understood. For most outsiders, only someone who loves several varieties of cars and has a love of racing would take such a risk. But sometimes there are exceptions to the rule—Danica Patrick being one.
Patrick made an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast a few years back. An excerpt from that video threw up some interesting insights into her life.
The former Stewart-Haas Racing driver told Rogan, “I just like my car to be good off the line. I bought a Lamborghini a long while back and it didn’t have a cup holder. I’m like “Well, this is stupid!” This is not practical. So then I bought the Mercedes. And then that had a couple cup holders. So it was good.”

Her nonchalance took Rogan by surprise. She continued, “Then technology evolved, it didn’t have Bluetooth to play my music. So I was like ‘I’m gonna have to get rid of this.’ That was when I started driving for Chevy, and that was when I got a Tahoe.”

For most people, NASCAR driver or not, a Lamborghini is the dream. Something as (seemingly) trivial as the absence of a cup holder wouldn’t have them selling their supercar in exchange for a Mercedes. But well, Danica did it.
Danica Patrick opened Pandora’s box
Anybody who has followed NASCAR for a significant amount of time would be aware that Patrick isn’t one to mince her words. Be it her views on sex, or her hatred for Big Pharma—she always keeps her heart on her sleeve.
Similarly, she wasn’t afraid to admit that she isn’t a car girl. Rogan asked her, “You drove for Chevy and they didn’t give you a Corvette?” Patrick instantly replied, “I didn’t ask for one.” A visibly shocked Rogan asked, “How could you not want one?”
“I needed a practical car. If I wanted a Corvette, I could buy one. I’m not a car girl. We went over this,” Patrick said. Rogan added, “I wanna understand this though. I keep wanting to catch you in that lie!” With a smile, Patrick reiterated “No! I don’t care! Cars are like purses for me. I just need one nice one, and when it wears out, I’m gonna get a new one.”

Despite all his attempts, there was no changing Patrick’s opinion. She really isn’t a car girl. Shocking? Maybe. But that’s how it is.
