Despite announcing a break from racing, Tony Stewart‘s wife and drag racing queen, Leah Preutt has declared that she will climb into her nitro-powered dragster one last time before she bows out to take up family responsibilities in 2024. The 35-year-old dropped a bomb last year when she publicized her desire to take some time off from racing to start a family with the her husband Tony Stewart. The Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner will be taking over his wife’s driver duties instead.

But little did the community know that they would get a chance to catch Pruett in action at the inaugural SCAG Power Equipment PRO Superstar Shootout before she shelves her aspirations. The drag racing sensation recently revealed her thoughts about the opportunity as she looks to bag another title.

I am honored to be a part of such an elevated inaugural event for the racers put on by the racers,” said Pruett who is elated to be back at it, getting off the line in a flash in her ridiculously powered dragster. With a whopping $250,000 prize on the line, the 35-year-old is gearing up for her entry in the inaugural SCAG Power Equipment PRO Superstar Shootout presented by Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage at Brendento Motorsports Park.

Reflecting on the grand opportunity slated for February 8-10, Pruett said, “Winning would make the sting of missing the world championship by one round [in 2023] a little less salty. Also, the event will make for unforgettable memories and experiences as I move on to our next chapter. I want to leave on a high note, and this is my shot to do that.” 

Pruett also joked about her motivation behind participating in the upcoming event.

On December 7 last year, it was announced that Leah Pruett would take a momentary break from racing to concentrate on family. However, the drag racer surprised everyone when she revealed her plans to participate in the PRO Superstar Shootout. So what made her change her former decision, one might ask?

Well, the drag racer was  humble enough to light-heartedly talk about what actually caught her attention. “Really, the shot to line my guys’ wallets from a huge win is a strong driving force,” Pruett admitted to Competition Plus. “If you are a drag race fan or fan of motorsports business in general, you will want to tune into this inaugural event that represents a movement.” The racer also joked about another motive that is pushing her to win in the upcoming event.

Sharing her thoughts about the how win is going to help her, she joked, “I would for sure add this win to the Instagram bio, right next to my NHRA national event wins and world championships.”

As for the PRO Superstar Shootout, the inaugural event has its own distinctions, teams will have four qualifying sessions to secure their spots in the eight-car fields for Top Fuel and Funny Car and the 16-car field for Pro Stock. Elimination pairings will be determined by random chip draws, thus adding an element of unpredictability and excitement.
