Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300. That was supposed to be the name of the Xfinity Series opener for 2024 at Daytona International Speedway. To some, it might have sounded unusual. To most, it was quite amusing. Till now, everything has been wonderful. But when NASCAR announced that the name of that coveted race would be changed, everyone lamented the lack of “beef.” But why did NASCAR decide to rename the race?
NASCAR announced its sponsor for the maiden Xfinity race of the upcoming season
United Rentals is the world’s leading equipment rental company that holds 16% of the North American market according to a 2022 report. When this American trading company extended its hands towards NASCAR to sponsor what was previously called the “Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300”, NASCAR changed the name of the race to United Rentals 300.

Xfinity race at Daytona in February has a sponsor … United Rentals 300

As reported by Jayski.com, Frank Kelleher, President of Daytona International Speedway, said, “United Rentals has an established and respected partnership with Daytona International Speedway, and we’re excited to expand that relationship with the United Rentals 300.”
The title of the Official Equipment Partner of NASCAR last year went to United Rentals. Besides its multiple entitlements in the Xfinity Series, Cup Series, and the Work United race at Phoenix Raceway, the Daytona International Speedway has become the latest track to host a United Rentals-sponsored event.
Craig Schmidt, Vice President of National Accounts at United Rentals, was elated to be able to join hands with NASCAR for its opening Xfinity race in 2024. Schmidt said, “NASCAR’s focus on team based performance epitomizes how United Rentals works together with its customers. We are looking forward to kicking off another great season and giving our customers an unforgettable experience.”
However, it looks like the fans weren’t too happy with the change. It seems like they really liked the “beefy” name.

It was a veteran FOX Sports journalist, Bob Pockrass, who broke the news on Twitter. But it didn’t take long for the fans to take it to Reddit. As the news came up, someone commented, “This is blasphemy!”
“WTF is gonna be for dinner now?” added another.
Someone said, “No more beef for dinner. This is a sad day in American history, folks.”

Reflecting on Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Hill’s 2022 and 2023 victory in the same event at Daytona, someone wrote, “It’s only fitting. Austin Hill has won the past two season openers.”
However, one of the users was relieved that the name was gone. They commented, “Thank gawd the stupidest race name in history is no more. Even worse than Buschy McBuschface.”
A fan was too disgusted at all the commotion in the comments section. They wrote, “Everybody complaining about beef when I haven’t been able to cure my headache since 1996”.
